for as long as needed....but there is a down side to hospice. If a person is recieving hospice and for whatever reason decides to go to the hospital.....lets say in your situation....go to the hospital for treatments then hospice is dicontinued....i worked as a hospice aide and believe me theres been plenty of times i wanted to be able to put the client in the hospital but unfortunately wasn't permitted to.Hospice will stay by your sisters side....they are there to give the family time away from home because it can become very stressful and hospice is there to provide comfort and dignity with passing on

My grandmother is receiving those services right now.
It's usually given to people with a prognosis under 6 months.
However, should the individual make it beyond that (such as my grandmother) they will continue to care for them until they pass or recover.
Just remind your sister, even if she is on hospice, she has every right to believe that she could recover. There are some instances where people have.
Good luck hon!

I am so sorry to hear that. It is so difficult to go through. My mom was in a hospice for 9 months it was terrible. She finally passed...from malnutrition.
I hope this ends for your family soon

I believe hospice will give the patient care as long as they need it, at least that`s what they told me when my Mom was terminally ill, but I did not use their services, we kept her at home, so I`m not too sure.My best wishes to your loved one, and Family.
