It all depends on who you ask. Some say that sexual climax is the closest one can get to knowing God on earth. They seek the moment of blank clarity at the height of climax. I hope that helps.

That is the stupidest thing I have seen on here yet. The two have absolutely nothing to do with each other.Spirituality has to do with a relationship with the Lord and has absolutely nothing to do with sexual orgasm. Good Grief! I can prove it! This is what God says.
Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh
Is that all you people think about is sex sex sex? There is way more to life than that. A relationship with the Lord takes you out of the phsyical and into the spiritual, which I can tell you that it is much more fulfilling than a temporary orgasm and lasts a life time.

You are really onto something here. Try not to repress these feelings because you think they are taboo. Two of the answers you got were pretty good. Sexual intercourse brings the two (husband and wife) together as one, just as Jesus said, "the two become one flesh". This is a description of sexual union between husband and wife.
And, as stated by another answerer, sexual climax is the closest to God that humans can get on earth. This is because as the two become one, their love (might) give life to a third. In this way man(kind) was created in God's own image - i.e. three-in-one. God is a Trinity and the Third Person of the Holy Trinity (The Holy Spirit) is begotten of the love between the the Father and Son.
I hope all this helps. But it's just the tip of the iceberg. If you want the whole story on this very exciting subject read Pope John Paul II The Great's "Theology of the Body". Rather, read "Theology of the Body for Beginners" by Christopher West. John Paul's book is HUGE! Mr. West's book is very readable and is an absolute page turner.

I, too, believe sex and orgasm can be very spiritually religious. Even enlightening. This is why I believe sex to be a sacred union.
There's only an alienation between sex and spirituality when it involves conservative belief systems. Many Earth-based religions practice what you believe. Perhaps you should check a few of them out.
Good luck.

Many people get confused about religion and spirituality. They are NOT the same. Being spiritual is about experiencing your soul, your spirit, your innermost being. And that does not have to have anything to do with religion.
With that being said, orgasm is the point at which one is most vulnerable to themselves and others. This is the point at which they are most relaxed and are able to acheive that feeling of ecstasy. This is a very spiritual moment for some people, as they not only feel at one with themselves, but at one with their partner as well. Climax is the point at which souls can mingle, can become one, can offer themselves up to a God.
Sex is one of the most spiritual things that you can do. It is about intimacy, about love, about feeling, about being in touch with yourself and your partner. You are right, there is most definately a connection between sex and spirituality, but it is different for each person.

God gave us the desire, the tools, and the rules for sex. I think that it does give us a taste of how heaven will be like. If that's just a taste, I can't wait. I hope that this isn't too far out there for some of you. Maybe someone out there will articulate it better.
But I do agree that there is a relationship between sex and spirtuality, in a way.

Let me Prophecize right now the same way the bible did it. I predict, that soon Carol M will appear here and rant and rave against you in her particular frustrated way. Watch and see if I am not a true Prophet.

Biblical Christianity is not opposed to sex (and orgasm) within monogamous marriage. In fact it was the Christian God who created all four...
In that sense there is no alienation between sex and spirituality within Biblical Christianity.
Cordially,
John

Sex is ordained by God for the husband and wife. When either have an orgasm, it tightens the bond betwen the two.

They are closely tied together, which is why sex was an integral part of most ancient religions (as were drugs). The taboos against sex cause untold harm.
