There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......

(L)isten: and validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.

Love is a commitment to the good of the beloved. It's not a feeling. It's impossible and foolish to promise to always feel a certain way, yet that is exactly what every married couple would be doing at their weddings if love were only a feeling. Mothers love their children even when those children are misbehaving or being exasperating. Physical expressions of affection are not love. Love is not afraid of commitment.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (1 Corinthians 13)

I think that love, and God, are the only things that TRULY have lasting meaning in life in such a materialized world. Without it we would just disintegrate just like all the material things of the world and evildoers. All we need is love.
