I'm getting a cavity filled tomorrow, and the one thing I'm worried about is the novacaine shot. I've had a lot of fillings in the past, but usually the shot wasn't really even that noticeable. Last time however, it seemed more painful than usual. The filling itself doesn't really hurt, just the shot. Is there any way of making this less painful for me? Also, will taking some kind of pain reliever previous to the appointment help reduce the pain?

I always think that certain areas in the mouth are more uncomfortable to receive anesthetic than others. I think the worst place to get numb is on your upper front teeth because there's a lot more pressure. The best place is on the top in the back....usually can't feel it. If you are getting numb on a bottom back tooth, usually the wider you are open, the more comfortable it will be. Just remember to take long, slow breaths and it will be over soon. Good luck

The dentist that I go to puts some numbing stuff on a swab and leaves in on the area he is going to numb for about 10 minutes. When he does this, you don't hardly even feel the shot because that stuff numbs up your gums first. I definitely ask for that every time.. A little nitrous oxide gas never hurts either if your nervous. It's usually only about 40$ more and well worth it!!

My dentist rubs something similar to Ambesol on my gum area where the shot will go and lets it sit there a few minutes before he gives me the shot. Although it doesn't completely get rid of the pain, it certainly reduces it. Ask your dentist if he has something like that he can use on you.

Tell the dentist to give you laughing gas before you have the novacine shot. Trust me, after that, you won't even care about the shot. Good Luck!!!

The dentist usually puts some Orajel on your gum to numb it before he gives you the shot...tell him to let the Orajel on longer before giving you the shot. Your gum should be pretty numb and you shouldn't feel the shot that much. Good luck!

Two things... you can get nitrous before the shot. You won't even care.

Ask for the salve (on the Q-tip) to be left in place for a longer time.

u looses all day every day...when in a bath/shower use a sponge or shower puff ball...the more u scrub the more old dead skin u are removing, the more dead skin u remove, the more tan u are removing...to avoid MORE of a tan, use the highest number of sun screen...and to go even farther than that, stay in doors, or wear long sleeves and pants....
