I am a 16-year-old male. Recently my aunt asked me to babysit my younger cousin (age 7) while she is at work. Since I have my driver's license, we often take daytrips to the mall or the town pool. The instance has not occured yet, but inevitably one of us will need to use the restroom during these trips. Is it appropriate for me to let her use the women's room by herself, or should I play it safe and take her into the men's room? I don't want my aunt to view me as a careless teenager, but I also don't want to violate my cousin's privacy. Any tips would be very helpful, especially from those of you who have been in simmilar situations.

You sound like a concerned and caring baby sitter for asking this type of question. What I would suggest you do is let her use the ladies restroom by herself because A. you can't go in with her and B. imagine what would happen if she walked into the men's room while someone was using the urinal C. she might not be able to hold it all the way home. Before you let her do this alone (there are countless weirdos out there both male and female) talk to her about safety but don't scare her lol. Then make sure you have a "game plan" as to what she should do should a problem arise while she's in the restroom. Let her know that you will be waiting for her right outside the door each time as it can be scary sometimes to go out on your own. You should however talk with your Aunt and let her know your concerns so that she can start the discussion with your cousin and support you in the whole process.

I believe she is at the age where she can go in the womens room by herself. But you need to wait outside the door until she comes out. As for you having to use the bathroom I'm not sure, maybe tell her while she's using the ladies room your going into the mens room and if she opens the door and doesn't see you she should wait in the restroom and keep checking to see if you've come out yet. Just an idea. You can ask your aunt what she might suggest.

Children over 4 can MOST DEFINITELY be taken into an opposite sex bathroom!

There's no way I'd send a 5-year-old boy into a men's room alone! *I* would take him in if need be, no matter how it made others feel.

And whoever said check the room first, then call out that you have a little girl is brilliant. Asking a mom with kids is second best, and pretty smart, too. Of course, ask the girl's mother. But I would be very uncomfortable allowing any seven- year-old child out of sight, behind a closed door, in such a public place.

You are a neat nephew, and a very good writer, too.

If you can not leave the 7 year old unattended or use a family restroom (the one with silouhette of family at the door). Then when entering the men's room just take a brief look to see if it is appropriate for her to see the room and announce you have a little girl with you. That way, others in the rest room can prepare for the change in the environment.

6 is basically too previous. 5 may be the age the place the full opposite intercourse bathing room factor could initiate coming to a stop. I certainly have seen a pair mothers make their 7-8 365 days previous boys circulate into the ladies's restroom together with her. Sorry, yet it is basically incorrect and its no longer honest to the boy to could circulate in there at his age. some mothers are basically paranoid and think of there are various those predators obtainable while in all reality there are not that many. a number of those mothers would desire to rouse! anyhow like I reported, 5 may be the age the place the two boys and girls could initiate making the transition of going into their very very own intercourse restroom and changing room and via 6 they'd desire to no longer be going into opposite intercourse restrooms era. *hiya Cassie, why do no longer you basically enable him use the mens restroom and wait exterior the door or some thing? Why you gotta make him use handicap bathrooms and oldsters bathrooms? it is basically as undesirable as forcing him into the womens restroom. hiya taljalea been paranoid long? 10 years previous is plenty too previous. 5-6 years previous is while they'd desire to be beginning as much as make the transition. Do you recognize that 10 is 3 years remote from being a young person and you nevertheless make the boy circulate into the womens restroom with you? Time to cut back the twine there Mommy. while are you going to initiate putting greater believe on your son. additionally the probabilities of something taking place to him are very slender. Oh and what do you propose age has no longer something to do with it? It has plenty to do with it. you nevertheless going to make your boy circulate in with you while he's a young person? while he without warning rebels against you, nicely then you definitely will understand the clarification why. Age has each thing to do with this subject count number of communicate. 5 and six 365 days previous boys are huge boys, no longer little boys and should no longer be going into the ladies's restroom. or changing facility basically via fact a number of you mothers are paranoid and are afraid to enable circulate. Your way of questioning is rather tousled. questioning all men are out to get your son. shame on you for questioning that way approximately men while the final public are not even pedophiles. Sorry, yet a 10 365 days previous boy should not be in a women's restroom! communicate some severe momma's boy - she has rather plenty ruined him.

Seven is more than old enough to go into the women's restroom by herself. Do not take her into the men's room, children over 4 shouldn't be taken into a restroom of the opposite gender.

It basically goes down to what your Aunt prefers since she is her mom. Ask your aunt what she would prefer. I don't think it's a problem for a 7 year girl to go in a girls bathroom alone. Just stand by the door and don't leave or look away until she comes back out.

I'd say at 7 she's old enough to go into the womens room by herself and meet you by the doors when she's done. At the same time, I would talk to your aunt and ask her what she wants you to do in this situation. It is really her decision.

That's a though one. I would suggest you stay in and around home so that you would never have need for the public bathroom. I'm sure your Aunt would have a hard time coming up with an answer too.
