A good babysitter is responsible, caring, good with YOUR children and has good references. Make sure that your children are comfortable with her; maybe invite her over and let her meet your children and see how she interacts with them. Then ask your children what they think of her, they will tell you what they think. Good luck.

I think that you have to really have a good feeling about the babysitter first off. Its really hard to find good help, but if you can find it try to stick with it. I babysit and I love it, most of my parents will meet with me and see how they feel and also how there child interacts with me for the first time. Children are smart and sometimes they can see something in people that we cant. Also maybe ask some people you know with kids if they have anyone you could try. Also if your child is old enough to talk I would make sure they new what type of things there baby sitter is not allowed to do and make sure they know to tell you if they do these things. Anyway good luck in your search....if your babysitter now is good maybe she knows some people that you would like.

word of mouth . you need to ask around . friends, neighbors, other moms waiting at the doctors office, the mom next 2 u in the grocery aisle. i am a mother and a former babysitter.references r your best friend. try her or him out.offer 2 pay by the hour with a 2 hour min. have the sitter come over 4 a trial but don't make any plans. leave your house, drive around the corner wait 20-30 min and come back unexpected use your keys come in quietly once in then announce yourself .u can just say your plans got canceled. notice her reaction, note what they were doing .ask your kids how they felt with her. once u find one that passes the trial u will feel more comfortable. however keep her on her toes be vague has to how far away you'll be and when you'll be back that's none of there business. now and then have a certain neighbor drop by to borrow a cup of sugar. always let yourself in quietly. not knowing when you will b back should always keep them on their best behavior

i trained my sitter - having 2 boys i got our next door neighbor to sit and he is wonderful now he started as a mommy's helper 4 years ago, and is now just awesome, and best of all, i know him and his family. He earns more with me than at the usual teen jobs so if you can look at it that way. make little cards with your name and phone number and when you see someone that looks like a potential sitter (older sister, camp counselor, etc) give them your i am looking for a sitter card

Try advertising good hours, good pay, but resumés are required. I KNOW that sounds ABSURD but if there are any girls who are honestly devoted to the job and not just mooching your phone bill, they'd happily oblige to the resumé.

Besides, it filters out the lazy bums. :)

youve probably already asked your friends, but if not that would be good. otherwise, i bet a service wouldnt be a bad choice, if the customers arent happy, they would be fired.
