I am half black and half italian, which means i have very curly, unmanagable hair at times. whenever i straighten my hair it ends up becoming dry and sometimes some parts of my hair are still really curly. it's gotten to the point where the only time my hair really looks great is when i go to see my hair dresser. i want to know if anybody has suggestions about what shampoos, straightening creams, etc to use. i'm a college student so i can't spend what little money i have on expensive hair products that are sold at hair salons. someone help!

Ciao, I also have the same hair & I tell everyone I can - got to OUIDAD! Stop straightening your hair! Curly hair is the most delicate of all & you are ruining your curl and creating puffy curls from pulling on your hair. There are no good affordable products for our hair type. They mostly contain heavy silicones - which you should NEVER use on your hair - as well as cheap alcohol that only dries your hair out even more, which makes you compensate by adding more product. I have used everything & the only thing I have found to work is Ouidad.( her site is www.ouidad.com). My hair has never looked or felt better. Frizz is gone and my curls are healthy, which is what's really important. Also, my sister uses her "Humidity gel" when she blows out her hair because it never frizzes & protect her hair from the heat.

I have curly/wavy frizzy hair... lots of it. I use John Frieda "Dream Curls" leave-in spray after I wash it. It relaxes my hair and make really nice smooth curls rather than a Phylis Diller Disaster.
It's around five bucks and lasts a long time.

For salon quality at low prices, find your closest Sally Beauty Supply - go to sallybeauty.com They have knockoffs of all kinds of products, and lots of products for ethnic hair. That might be your best bet, ethnic products are usually a little heavier so they hold better.
