To cook the old fashioned way, simply heat up vegetable oil, so there's a small amount in the bottom of your pan. Heat it up on the highest heat, put in 2 to 3 kernels of popcorn. When they pop, add the rest of the popcorn, enough to cover single layer in the bottom of the pan. Cover, and keep the pan moving by shaking it over the heat til the popping stops...As for keeping the popcorn from shriveling, I'm not sure what to do, other than add a bit less butter and eat it right away. It could be that the different varieties of popcorn you buy would make a difference.

You should be able to find a Popcorn Popper at just about every garage sale or thrift store in the country. As for the butter, use real butter and nothing short of it like "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter", because the other products are loaded with water which shrivels the corn. Someone else suggested letting it cool or finding a way to spray it on, which should help. I've used a turkey baster or a large salad spoon to drizzle it around.

~*~ put some oil in a pan heat it up on the stove.. when the oil is hot (try not to burn it.. ) lower the heat a little maybe to medium level.. then put the kernels in and shake the pan back and forth.. put the lid on the pan/pot so that the kernels don't go everywhere and you don't burn yourself.. the kernels aren't going to start popping right away like the second you put them in.. it might take a little bit but be patient.. while the popcorn pops.. move the pan back and forth to try and get all the kernels popped.. when you hear that the popping is less frequent its time to remove it from the heat.. let the popcorn cool.. add butter and/or salt.. i hope you find this helpful.. this is how i make it..~*~

Let the butter cool a little first. If it is very hot, it will shrivel the popcorn, less so after it cools.

Get the spray on butter. You can buy that jiffy pop stuff or use a cast iron skillet with a lid on a gas stove and shake it back and forth. That makes the best popcorn ever.

Take some olive oil and pour it in a LARGE frying pan, one that is steep. (if youwant to before hand put the olive oil in a sauce pan and preheat it with fresh rosemary, its REALLY good trust me). Then pour one cup of popcorn seeds in and put the cover on and good luck and be careful!

I agree with pamela d. I tried some Tony Cachere's cajun spice on the popcorn and it tasted really good.
