We're taking a 2 1/2 week trip to Texas in February and we're driving...this is going to be the longest he's ever had to drive in a car, what should I expect and what should I be prepared with?We are going to stop one night to sleep and we will be stopping to let him get out and stretch his legs.Any tips from any mothers who have brought they're kids on long trips..driving. Oh yeah, we're driving from North Central Wisconsin.

try driving as much as you can at night. have plenty of toys
have sheets and towels handy. books on tape and nursery rhymes are helpful, if you have a portable dvd player or laptop that can play dvd they are helpful - if you have the hardware libraries are a great source for books, dvds and tapes also take medicines for baby (asprin, medication, comfort foods lots of goodies not sugary - enjoy

hopefully he will just sleep a lot. Be sure to get out of the car to go and eat and stuff. The trip may take a lot longer you will want to be sure he's not coped up all day. Bring car games coloring books and crayons. His favorite toy a small comfy pillow for his head if he wants to sleep and a blanket "you'll have a/c on" HE MIGHT GET CHILLY. Be sure he is always in a booster seat. A booster seat will keep him safe in a accident and allow him extra height to see out the window. He may be restless and want to romp around the car very dangerous. If she gets to active stop at a rest area let him run a while.

Yes he'll get bored. In addition to things to amuse himself with he will probably enjoy family games that make him feel included. Make a list of license plates from different states see how many states you get or pictures on the plates. Or the alphabet game where you get the letters in order from bill boards, exit signs and such this is a great learning game. Most kids really appreciate the interaction on a long trip good luck!

I actually did the same thing we drove from Pennsylvania to Texas with our son who was 4 at the time also. Just make sure you have plenty of snacks and juice boxes. I would also recommend to bring toys, game boy, maybe a portable DVD player. These things should keep your child occupied during the drive. Good Luck!!

Be prepare for a long trip. If he's a boy you won't have to frequently stop for the potty. Take empty bottles with you.

For a girl-- frequent stops. Buy a protable potty-- just in case.

Take coloring books, markers, etc. Snacks and some fruit.

Well, sounds like you are on a hard schedule. But I use to factor in slop time so we could stop spontaneously to check out interesting things (to both of us) we encountered along the way. Within the bounds of safety (car seat), be sure he can see out - mine comlained once because I kept describing interesting stuff, like an armadillo (Alive!) and a dead cow and he couldn't see 'em. So, I drove back a few miles and retraced our steps so he could see all the cool stuff too!

Buy a stable table or a craft pack that can be leant on. This will allow him to draw, or have a place to look at pictures or books. Also I found it a good idea to have lots of little snacks, things that aren't too messy. Good music can be calming.

bring a travel kit to keep him busy. Make sure that what you bring won't make him car sick. Plenty of liquids to drink. Activity books. Look for license plates from other countries. Have him bring his own pillow and any other items that make him feel secure..like favorite toy or stuffed animal.
