It's okay BUT, be aware there are many germs in the water. It is a known fact that many public pools are a huge invite to germs such as E coli and if there is even a tiny bit of Algae visible to the eye then there is bacteria in the water which can lead to ear infections such as swimmers ear. Make sure you buy some little swimmers diapers and make sure the parks policy states all babies have to wear little swimmers this helps keep feces and urine out of the water. and one last fact most people believe that when they smell chlorine its a good sign the pool is clean, the fumes from chlorine are because there is a lot of bacteria in the water the chlorine is working to try to kill. Also if you see someone with a baby and no little swimmer bring it to life guards attention.
finally for a baby I would recommend dipping feet legs and no higher then waste, very heavy sunscreen (tear free) and a hat for baby's head.

My child started to go to the pool by 5th weeks.
My first born learn to swim from instructor by 4 months.
How long in the water? You must observed the baby's lip. If the lips turn blue, take the baby out. If not, the next moment the face will also turn blue, and you will be in trouble.
How long in the water is really a relative. It depends weather, the baby physic at that moment, the seasons of the year, the last time of feeding etc. For the same child, it can various from 1.5 hrs during summer, to 15 minutes during cold seasons.
My 2 gals also differents. They are one year apart. The older one tends to be able to stay at least hald hour longer in the water.
In all things, be careful, but not fearful.
Enjoy your time with your children.

It is O.K. for her to be in the water, but the issue is in the sun. Make sure she has on a hat. I am not sure there is a sunblock for baby's under six months old. Call her pediatrician or look on the bottles in the store for the ages that it can be used on. I would only have her there for a short time. She could burn or get too hot. Please be careful.

no babies should go swimming under 6 months. According to What to Expect the First Year a baby should have good head control to go swimming. Plus you have to worry about the water temp.

I took my son swimming every week. I started when he was 3 months old. Make sure the water is warm. Look at her body language. If she looks like she is cold she probably is! Feel the top of her head it should be warm. If it's cold she probably had enough!
Have fun!

Absolutely take her in the water. She will probably love it, most babies do. However, be very careful to always have a good hold of her. Do not let her slip under the water or become scared of the water. You do not want her to become afraid of the water.

Sun block, baby hats, SWIM DIAPERS!!!!
Always laugh, even if you think she might have drowned, then she will see that it is ok and you are happy and smiling and she will be happy too.
I hear they hold their breath when you blow on their face. So if you want to dunk her, it's worth a shot for a half a second.

I just asked my doctor about this very same thing. He said that as long as the baby has sunscreen and is not allowed to drink or swallow any water (this can be very dangerous-something about diluting the bloodstream), it is Ok to swim.
