I do not know where you get your information about Islam. But I and many of my Muslim sisters are completely liberated. I am an educated woman and my husband had no problem with me working toward my PhD.
More research should also be done on your part about the age of Aisha when penetration finally took place. Yes she was married to Prophet Muhammad (pbah) when she was 9. But she lived with her father till she was 14-16. At this time in the entire world the age of 14 was acceptable for a union of husband and wife, not only in the Middle East but also Europe.
I think that you came to Islam with many misconceptions and should have done more research before you took Islam as your belief system. I personally researched for almost 10 years before I converted. I understand the Quran and Sunna and will continue to learn more. Because education in very important in Islam.
Many of the problems in Islam today is not actually the teachings of Islam but culture. Once Culture of the people you speak of is taken away you will see true Islam is not violence but peace. This is why there are 1.3 billion Muslims in the world and it is the fastest growing religion in the world. Away from the violence of the Middle East.

What she means to say about the founder of the religion of Islam, Mohammad, was that he was a real beast of a lowly man and would be considered a murderous thug in any right-thinking culture.
Mohammad lived in the desert with his fellows and, while he forbade his followers to have sex with women as they were blody and dirty, it was okay for him to have young girls in his tent at night. I suppose he ordered no one to pay attention to the screams coming from there in the middle of the night. That's what she means by "shagged" a nine year old girl. Most definitely, it happened more than once, I am sure.
Mohammad was not a field general in the army of Islam, he was his own foot-soldier- and he loved it. Once he got the orders to convert everyone to worship Allah, Mohammad took it upon himself to make certain that Allah's commandments were done with the population all over the Arabian peninsula. He attracted many power-hungry warlordds for this task. Very often, and with some glee, Mohammad would have the captured infidels rounded up after a day of battle and personally cut their heads off. He would behead the men in front of their wives and children and then offer the female "infidels" to his men with orders to kill them after they were done doing what they would do to them.
They say that it is against the Muslim way to kill another person. I am afraid that that is a mistranslation that needs to be stopped right here. It is against Islam and against Allah to kill another Muslim. If they are not Muslim, then they MUST be killed. It is a commandment of Allah.
Mohammad said that he received the words of Allah while on a mountain. He received seven commandments. The first was that Allah was God. The others included instructions about what to do if someone did not submit to Islam, which was mainly killing them or taxing them to death. The final commandment of Allah was that no one will ever question these commandments.
No wonder these people are so afraid. No wonder they are so ignorant and backwards.
If you do not believe it, go to a Muslim country some time and witness for yourself that there is no electricity, no books save the Qu'ran, no running water, no television or Internet. In places where those things exist, people tremble because they know that what their leaders say is absolutely false. They must be frightened out of their minds, especially the nine year old girls.

Wow..you are definitely very angry. You shouldn't have to follow anything which you disagree with. At the same time; your sweeping statements are just that and I think that beyond Islam there are other factors which contribute to keeping some Muslim countries poor. Those which have agreements with the US are usually rich. I will not go any further that this on here but it speaks for itself:
Any country that has the death penalty for leaving Islam is acting according to its own law, not Islam. The Qu'ran says (paraphrase) To you your way and to me mine. So as long as you leave me alone, you're free to believe whatever you want and I will leave you alone too and we can talk about something else.
I do hate those countries that do such horrors in the name of Islam when it's nothing to do with Islam: It's disgusting to abuse any religion this way and I do understand your anger in this respect but I can't agree with your general statement which is also very offensive towards the great majority of peaceful Muslims. It's also wrong. Economics and politics are behind the poverty you mention in some countries. Yet the West invariably blames this on Islam. It's the fashion of the time and it will pass for so is fashion.

Of course you know, no one leaves Islam, or so thats what they insist. They brag on converting Christians and gloat despite evidence contrary than NO ONE leaves Islam.
Of course I have no doubt that many Muslims in the Middle East think several times before converting to another religion then don't under threat of prison or death or both. And funnier still - when someone like the guy who made international headlines when he was thrown in prison and waiting execution for converting to Christianity from Islam. The man had/has no free choice in Islam.
AND SADDER STILL! AMERICANS STILL FLOOD TO ISLAM! That just makes no sense at all.
At least in Christianity you always have a choice to stay or go without wondering if your religious brethren are going to take your head.

"islam is responsible for keeping muslims in ingnorance, poverty, and tribal customs, and islam does not tolerate free speach, democracy, liberation of women"
This seems very similar to the views of Christianity. They do not tolerate free speech (no blasphemy). They do not tolerate democracy, (He rules). They do not tolerate equal rights for women (Many references, here's one: "As it is written in the law of the LORD, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord." (Luke 2:23) Basically saying that men are holy to God and women are not).

I have often wondered why ANY woman would want to follow Islam. Especially if she has a choice.
I can sort of see why men are so entranced. Especially our young black men in America. What they don't seem to understand is that a "real" muslim, the original Arabian version, will slit their throat just as quick as they will anyone else's, and that they are worst racists than any white person I've ever known.
Congratulations on your escape. Many don't make it.

Have you read any of the books by Ibn Warraq?
He was a Muslim who investigated some of the areas you mention and ended up coming out of Islam.
You may find his writings to be of interest (available at www.amazon.com).

I don't know much about Islam or its founder or beliefs. But I do commend you for taking the time to reflect on your beliefs and morals. I hope you are able to find a religion that you feel comfortable with.

You shouldn't. Think for yourself. Search the truth yourself. I am not one to push my faith onto anybody else. But I promise you, if you pray to God and wholeheartedly seek the truth and answars, He will reveal His glory to you. And, please, stay away from islam.
