Who should be invited to a baby shower - out of town people that aren't going to come - I don't want to offend by not inviting people, but I don't want to look like a plea for gifts....what about wives of my husband's friends?

I would imagine that family members for sure.. even if they are out of town.. let them know that you are thinking of them.
I wouldn't just invite people you barely know even if they are your husbands friends wives. Do you hang out with them? Are they going to be a part of the baby's life? Co-workers are good. If there is a budget and a size limitation in the space you are having the shower... take that into consideration as well.

The people who should be invited are these:

Family
Close Friends of yours

If someone feels offended, explain to them that they can have a shower for you if they wish.

Family and close friends should be first on your list. You could invite your husband's friends during the baby christening, not the shower.

You shouldn't be giving your own baby shower! Don't you have a girlfriend to give you one?
