Have never taken it; have prescribed it numerous times.
Mainly used for depression, bupropion (the generic name of Wellbutrin) is believed to act by modifying the activity of the dopaminergic synapses. OK, that's over technical hash, sorry.
It works well for a lot of people; it's not going to work for everyone. That's true of its primary use (depression) as well as its secondary ones (like assisting with smoking cessation, or treating some forms of attention defecit disorder)
It's most frightening side effect is that it can cause some seizure prone people to have seizures; it's not a drug I prefer to use in folks with known seizures. More commonly, it just causes some drowsiness, but that's usually temporary and not a problem.
Unlike some of the other drugs in the antidepressant group, it does not produce sexual side effects.
It's out there. It works, but not for everyone

I've taken it for nearly six years. I'm Bipolar and it helps with my down swings, which are more frequent than my ups now. I haven't notice any side effects since we got my doses right. I'm really happy with it, however it isn't right for everyone. It can give you mild seizure, which happened early on when my dose was too high, and it can also give some people, not all, very bad head aches. But I would say try it for at least three months, that's about how long it takes for your system to full gain the benefits of it, and if it doesn't work try something else. The most important thing is to work with your doctor and tell them any symptoms you may be having.

My personal experience was that I tried it twice. I felt better mentally but had sharp pains in my head from it. I figured the sharp pains weren't a good thing, so I stopped.
However I have several friends and family that love Wellbutrin because of lack of side effects. If your doc recommends it, give it a try.

I have no history, nor does my family, of seizures. Unfortunately I had two temporal lobe seizures (nothing shaking, your body just literally shuts off like hitting an "off" switch). The first we thought I had simply lost conciousness because I was dehydrated. The second time it happened there were more extensive tests taken and it was apparent that my reaction to Welbutrin was to have temporal lobe seizures.
