Thou shalt not bear false witness.

If my friend did it, he deserves to face the punishment (goes for family too)

If he didn't do it......... well I'm naive and still have faith in the system

Lies are never the way to go plus committing perjury is a crime that you could be charged with. Helping someone avoid the responsibility of his actions does not send a very good message, now does it?

No. The reason for this is that if they've committed a crime that could potentially land them in prison for a life term (or get them the death penalty) then that's probably not someone I'd want to continue to be friends with.

This is, of course, assuming it's a random act of violence and not self defense.

Maybe I'm the bad person of this group, but I would without hesitation. If it would save my friend's life, or even spare them prison time, I would do whatever I could to protect them. Prison isn't anything to take lightly, and I wouldn't wish that on someone I love-even if I had to lie under oath to stop it. I have way too much loyalty in me to allow that to happen if I could prevent it.

The only way it would save his life is if he has already taken someone else's. I would never commit perjury for anyone, except myself, of course.

Ok...if my lie in court would save my friend's life..then that would mean that my friend committed murder and is facing capital murder charges...

If my friend committed capital murder to land himself in court...then he chose the consequences for his action at the time he chose to kill someone.

No. I would not lie to spare someone a consequence like that that they chose....I would cry...I would grieve...I would miss that person....but I live what I teach...we are responsible for our actions.

Your lie may also provide him with a prison bunk mate. Bring your toothbrush to court.

I would lie in a heartbeat to save my friends life unless it involved a kid or old person. I would hang him if he hurt a kid or oldie

No. If I knew he or she was guilty I would tell the truth even if that ment their life. If they break a law then they have to live with the consequences.
