What does religion have to do with peace? The better question would be can there be peace where there are disagreements? And the answer to that is no.
It doesn't matter whether it's religion, land, economic structure, or political system. People will always find an excuse to fight. In the end, fighting is about imposing your will on someone else. Don't pick on religion just because a few people want to abuse it to exert power.

I think, when we talk about conflicts between religions, they are often caused by those who pretend they are acting in wishes of God or for the sake of God. This is can be troublesome since they are the "wannabes" and that they've added human interpretations to the religion thus actions they do. So can you really say a person's doing it for his or her God, or think they are but actually not. Why would there be wars/ conflicts/ violences if the goal of most religions is to find the inner peace and promotion of peace. Now that's only my interpretation of what a true religions person should do. How a person promotes peace is another story. No one like to admit they are wrong especially if it is something passed down centuries ago... are what they know, truly God's word or actually "wisdome" from previous generations... aka human interpretation of God's words?

There can never be peace in the world whether or not religion exists. Man hopes continually for peace in the world; he tries by his own efforts to achieve it. Thus enemies sit together at the peace table, but none can deliver. He's anxious about his politics, his governments, hoping they can choose the right leaders to set things straight, but there is no one who can do it.
We pay taxes to law-enforcement agencies to protect us from crime. We have courts, judges, juries, and prisons to help contain the criminal element. Banks and department stores hire security officers and install many kinds of security devices. People are afraid to work in an all-night convenience store or sleep in their own beds behind locked doors. Despite all these efforts, crime has become more rampant, and will continue to do so. Evil is increasing in the world, and the good in it is decreasing rapidly. No matter which politicians the people choose for their leaders, holes in their purses become larger and larger. The toil, trouble, and sorrow, which have always been the rule of the world, are increasing -- and will continue at an ever-increasing rate. The world is headed for a Great Iceberg, and we are on the Titanic.

There can be peace in a world with religion. The questions should really be, can there be peace in a world with people in it.

Religion is not the cause of war. Hatred and unforgiveness is the cause of war. Even the war in the Middle East can be traced back to unforgiveness between ancient communities or between family members. Most of the religions of the world promote peace, forgiveness, and long-suffering.

i think there will always be war as long as people exist. It is people that create war and their interpretations of religion, you only have to look at Christianity and the different ways that Christians interpret the bible. The same goes for my own belief system, paganism, there are many different branches and ways in which pagans interpret their belief system. It follows with every religion or belief system, we are individuals and as such we are flawed for example two people can watch the same movie but get different perspectives on it, a crowd could witness an incident in a busy street and there would be conflicting statements. Who is to say which one is incorrect they all just see things differently

Do the fighters have time to practice their religion? What are they fighting for in their religion? Surely an overriding religion would advise the basics of right or wrong, in human terms, to create harmony in the world.

Yes. There will be world peace. its just a matter of time before the extreemists in any religion realise they are acheiving nothing. People will be able to worship without fear of being critisised.
