well i was wondering why? they said something about iron who knows. anyways knowing me i dont care i probably just wana get it up and running? or will it blow up or something thanks

They were probably thinking that the refrigeration oil needs to flow back out of the compressor. Honestly, I think an hour or two would be long enough for the oil to flow. It is a pretty light oil and tends to move though the machine as it runs. The Best Buy people's 24 hours sounds a like a little CYA.

Most likely because the oil that lubrcates the compressor is displaced and needs to resettle back.
If you run the unit before the oil settles it may not work right or could damage the compressor.

oil gets into the compressor when it lays on it's side. If you let it sit upright for several hours the oil will run back down. If you do use it with oil in the compressor you will burn it up.

The reason for this is to give the freeon a chance to settle so the unit will cool properly and work more efficiently and that wil make it last for years.
