and they say no. It would seem to me you can not believe in one without believing in the other. A ghost is a soul that has not left this plane of existance. It would seem that out of all the souls in existance some for various reasons would choose not to move on.

In Genesis when God created Adam he became a living soul.(Gen.2:7)Also, throughout the Bible,animals are called souls.
The soul is not immortal--that is a false teaching that is found nowhere in the Scriptures. At ezekial 18:4 it tells us that "the soul that is sinning, it shall die." In the book of Acts it tells us: "And it shall come to pass, that every soul which will not hear the Prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people." (Acts 3:23)
When a soul(person) dies, they return to the dust, awaiting a resurrection to either life in heaven or to life on a paradise earth
So there are no such things as ghosts. There are wicked spirits though and these we must guard against.
Ephesians 6:12: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

I believe that the human body is just a shell that encases the soul, and that souls can get trapped here on earth, the reason being that I believe in souls being what makes a person a person is that I have seen many people die right in front of me, and sometimes you can feel their soul leaving their body.

I suspect most of the people you are talking to are Christians. Christians don't believe in ghosts because they believe once you die you either go to Heaven or Hell and there is no in between. Therefore, they believe that we all have a soul, but not that they can get stuck on Earth or in purgatory.

well, a ghost is a myth believe it or not. ghosts are things the human mind has deceived itself into believing in. and if God (the creator of anything on earth) says nothing about ghosts, they don't exist.

its because you are supposed to either go into a plane of torment for being bad or a universal paradise if you're good. Supposedly.
