Sexual reproduction of organisms involves 2 life phases - sporophyte and gametophyte generations. In each phase, the number of chromosomes is different. Haploid means half the number of chromosomes found in the diploid phase. Lower life forms like equisetum or mushrooms live most of its life as a haploid organism and then through interaction with another organism, a diploid structure (mushroom we see) emerges and sends forth spores.
Asexual reproduction can be seen in plants that send out runners or produce small plants at the edge of their leaves. The Mexican hat plant is the first one that sticks in my head as an example.

all you really need to know about sexual reproduction is that it allows genetic recombination. genetic recombination increase our fitness.( as in survival of fitness, Darwin kind of fitness)
