for the same reasons americans worship dogs and cats. it's satisfying to them. their cultual mythologies provide for connections to the animals (because we are animals ourselves after all) in their own way for their own reasons. you might think that cows are silly animals. perhaps that says more about you than the indian people.

In India they worship just about anything. I had a Hindu show me his pen and tell me that if he made this pen his god and worshipped it, it would be a valid god for him and would help him. They literally worship everything and anything. Kinda sad in my opinion.
