A good SAT score is usually from a 600 and on in the math and verbal sections.
For college-bound seniors this year, the averages where:
Verbal: 508
Math: 520.
A low score would be one less than average.
Writing counts for much less, because the grading system for the essays is so ineffective, so many colleges don't look at the writing grade at all.

It depends on what you need it for. Presumably you're asking, because you need this information for getting into college. Whether your score is good or not will depend on the particular college in which you have an interest. Colleges usually publish the average scores of students who have been admitted to the school or who attend the school. So it may be best to check these scores of schools that are of interest to you.

Most colleges aren't counting the SAT for as much as they did in the past since they changed added the writing section, which changed the total value to 2400 from 1600.
An excellent score (Harvard, Yale) is above a 2250, especially if you are above a 700 in both math and verbal.
A very good score (Villanova, William and Mary) is above a 2000, with a 650 in math and verbal.
A good score (SUNY Geneseo, American) is above an 1800, with a 600 in math and verbal.
A respectable score (most top state schools) is above a 1500, with a 500 in math and verbal.
A mediocre score (lesser state schools and 2 year colleges) is around a 1200, with 400 in math and verbal.
If you do bad on your SATs but are good in school, try taking your ACT. It tests different aspects of knowledge.

"Good," "average," and "low" are all relative terms. For the student aspiring to matriculate at a top-20 school, a 1900/2400 would probably be considered "low." On the other hand, a student without such high aspirations would probably look upon that score as good, or even great.
1500 is average, statistically speaking.

The highest possible score is a 2400.
I'm not sure exactly what the average is for this year, but my guess is that 1500 is about average. I know I got a 1910, but I haven't gotten my whole score report thing in the mail yet.
