My two year old daughter is in the same phase. As for suggestions...I've tried everything you've tried and I HIGHLY suggest cutting out the naps. Our daughter is not a sleeper and if she went to bed at 9pm after having a nap, she would be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 5am (after waking up numerous times through the night!) When we took out the naps, it was heaven and getting her to bed was a piece of cake (sometimes) though she does continue to wake up through the night now and again. BUT, you may want to ask your doc about nightmares and/or night terrors, especially if he is waking up screaming. Good Luck!

this is common in 2-3 year olds, it is due to them wanting to test their Independence, or it could be he is having bad dreams. Try saying a prayer with him if your religious, or limit his naps to 1 hour a day. if you cut out naps completely then you are going to have a very ornery child later in the afternoon. read him a pleasant bed time story. I feel for you My son did this too when he was 2. its a phase that he will outgrow and should only last a couple of weeks. Hope things get better.

he might be sleep walking... my 8 year old does it and has since she was two.. you swear she is awake!!! she will hold a conversation with you like she would if she was wide awake..
If that is the case there isn't anything you can do about it.. It was bad when she was younger but now she is waking up maybe two to three times a week!!
Just make sure nothing is in his way that would make him fall and hurt himself and you might want to either put a chain lock high above all the doors leading outside or a key bolt lock.. My daughter tried once to go outside when she was sleep walking.. Good luck!!!

keep an eye on what plays on the TV before he goes to bed..even if he does not watch it but just looks at something scary for a quick second...he could be having bad nightmares... he might have some teeth growing in as well...if you put a little bit of ora gell on his teeth before bed that might work

Try giving them an incentive to stay in bed, say, you stay in bed all night, two nights in a row, you get a special treat, then slowly increase the amount of nights.

NO NAPS! that would be the first thing to try. If that doesn't work, keep a close track of how much caffeine he gets. That crap is in everything including chocolate.
