Ideally, none. Nothing good has ever come from a theocracy. Lets look at what theocracies have done: Inquisitions, war, suffrage, inequalities, violations of human rights. None of these I want in America (or anywhere else for that matter).
If I had to choose an actual religion, it would be Agnosticism. It leaves the quest for knowledge, both theistic and atheistic available, but baseless "facts" illegal. We would have so many less people full of half-truths and hot air when it comes to spirituality.

It would be a toss up between these five: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhist, and Paganism, but then again none of them at the same time. The U.S. Constitution states that there shall be no nationally recognized religion, and there for will not adopt a notionally recognized state religion. Though some of the people in the Bible Belt sure would like to make Christianity into the National religion. *sigh* But what can you do?

The trick is that setting a state religon would hint that the powerbase is in a social state form. Meaning... it wouldent be the united stated of america it would be the state of america with a bunch of lines drwan in it united under one religon precepts and leadorship.
While where possibly heading for that... Its not how the founding father intended the role of governemnt to exsist. Infact the debait on how the nation would be formed.. that lasted so long and was perilous was vary particular and maticiulus about how the governments power was assembled from.. enforced and delegaited over all. Many independant states with a republic united under god. (merely god)
The point was after the bill of rights.. and yes there was debait that we even needed a bill of rights at all.. but thank god there is.. (otherwise we would have no idea anything was being stepped on now.)
Seperation of the church and "state" was formal as at the time there was still a recent memory of the bible being unlawfully translated into english. the religious culture was a major power. so it was eliminated as having a foothold on the holdings of the nations "free republic".
So what we got was a masonic acknowledgement of god.. and thats about as much as a state declairation as youll get.
And as I beleave that is all we need.

I would not want any religion to be the official religion. Beside this country( as far as the rest of the world is concerned) already has a religion it's called money!~! But if you want an answer how about Buddhism. It is a peaceful gentle religion.

It's called seperation of church and state which I am eternally thankful for. My family is all different religions. This country was founded on cultural and religious differences. So I can't answer this question.

Believe it or not, the USA is not that far from becoming a theocracy. It could very well happen within the next 20 years, unless we all do something to prevent it. And guess what? We're not going to have any choice in deciding what its going to be.

Christianity is the only logical choice, seeing as most of the citizens are Christians.
