I have been in that position too when Im went abroad for a month. It is just a matter of controlling your thoughts. try not to be alone or idle. Boredom won't help. It will just let you think and think. If you can't avoid it..focus on things like..why are you in that place..far away from home (there must be a purpose right ) then live wiht that purpose.Have fun..enjoy other things.There are lots to know and explore BUT above all else PRAY..PRAY..God is with you always. When I first left home I called home every Sunday night,
and I still do, it's standard check-in time every week.

letters, phone calls, pictures. I'm 40 and still call my mom every night.

I go home. And then I realize why I moved.

I love my family and they are wonderful, but wow....
