Why to so-called Christian pick and choose what they want to follow?

For example, they always quote Leviticus when beating up on gays, but I never hear anyone condemn divorce. Jesus says divorce is a sin. (see below) Why do so-called Christian churches refuse to perform gay marriages but they will perform second marriages that Jesus says are sinfull?

Matthew 5: 31"It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' 32But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery. And whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

I stand corrected, Catholics are the only Christian domination that places Divorce at the same level as homosexuality. I don’t personally don’t agree with it, but at least they are consistent, unlike Baptist and others.

Not only do you have a good point but research has shown that divorce has played a big part in gender disorientation. Broken families and children raised with out fathers leads to all kinds of difficulties. Still no excuse for homosexuality or any other sin but all sin is wrong.

I am a Christian & think you have read this the wrong way. If a person divorces for a good reason, like ABUSE or something harmful, then I don't see it as a sin. My mom has been divorced 1x & got re-married. She was a virgin till her wedding night. She has been a faithful Christian for 20 some odd years now. I am not really for or against gay marriages. I just don't understand it. Then again I am only 15 1/2. So are you saying my mom has sinned by being divorced & remarrying?? She was basically abused in the relationship. Til this day she will not tell me what all went on in their 6 yrs or marriage. That is all i have to say.

You missed it. The question Jesus answered was "can a man divorce for 'no' reason?" go back and study the context-that always helps. Christians do take a cautious approach to divorce. It is not forbidden on proper grounds. You must read all the Scripture concerning divorce before you can judge anyone on this issue. Or else you would be "picking and choosing".

Being a freethinker, I think that taking the bible as truth has serious flaws. First, many of the stories in the bible were borrowed from pagan sources (for example the story of Noah and the ark, comes from the story of Gilgamesh). Second, none of the chapters in the bible were written by eyewitnesses since all were written by people who lived hundreds of years after the death of the supposed Jesus. Third, there are scientific inaccuracies in the bible (for example, our world was believed to be the center of the universe due to passages in the bible, now we know that the earth revolves around the sun. the theory of a heliocentric world was first proved by the physical evidence observed during an solar eclipse of a shadow on the moon). How can a book "inspired" by an "all-knowing, perfect deity" contain such inaccuracies? Easy, it's a crock of malarkey.
Don't forget, JESUS S(L)AVES!

The Catholic Church holds fast to the teachings on divorce.

You do need to check interpretation on v32....my Bible says 'unless the marriage is an unlawful one."

The Catholic Church determines whether a marriage is unlawful through the annulment process. No, not every annulment is granted. But the process is designed to determine if a couple lacked the maturity, knowledge and/or commitment to truly make it a marriage.

That is why a divorced person cannot amrry in the Catholic church without benefit of an annulment.....and Catholics are constantly faulted for it!

Without a shadow of a doubt the Bible is Gods infallible word. First of all
you can not take the Old Testament where God deals with the chosen
people Israel and how God has dealt with them to bring the promised seed of woman to bruise satins head into fruition.(Gods Only Begotten
Son Jesus Christ) You are like a blind dog in a meat house you don't know what you are talking about. It is not your fault because a dead man walking can not understand spiritual truth. That is why there is so many
different Religions.Islams, huddas,Buddhas,Latter day Saints and on and on. All have been started thousands of years after Jesus was Bodily
Resurrected From The Dead. They can not understand the TRUE WORD
the Bible.1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.Gods Word will come to pass.
Psa 119:89 LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

What kind of answer are you expecting?
That Christians should be damned?

Look, you didn't open anyone's eyes by posting this question. Some people are still going to dislike gay's and maybe divorce. The best thing to do is live with it.

Because to follow the Bible, you have to pick and choose because the translations and editing made it imperfect. Some verses directly contradict others.

i.e.
EXO 15:3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.
ROM 15:33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

ISA 14:21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.
DEU 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

Actually most Christian churches at some point were against divorce and homosexuality. As churches become more greedy for participants and money, they started relaxing some of their standards. Why do you think homosexuality is being embraced. It has nothing to do with a change in doctrine of Christ but of greedy church leaders wanting to bemore accepted by world standards to earn more money and influence

Not every church and every Christian makes divorce ok. I am a Christian and I personally believe every word of the Bible and I believe divorce is wrong unless your spose commited adultery.
