Like today, met someone on here who claimed to be a christian and was being rude like anyone else. I've also been to churches where some people like to gossip about one another.

Some people have evil in their hearts. It doesn't matter what their faith is. It is a shame that tolerance isn't a more important lesson in this world. Good question, I am agnostic.

I am gonna give a true answer.

I am a christian, and yes, we are just as bad as the world, because we are human. we are the same as jews, muslims, etc. WE ARE HUMAN! i am naturally a nice person, i don't like being rude, etc. but i have met those kind of people.

a lot of people assume that just because we are christians it means we can be *bad* and then be forgiven. no, that is not what we think (maybe some people do though). and being bad does not get you into hell, being unfaithful is what gets you into hell. we also dont thing we are innocent saints or w/e. 99.9% of real christians know that we are human just like everybody else, and that we are born into sin. like we cant help it. (some people can though). yes gossip is bad. but don't regular people do it too? there is no difference between christians and non-christians. the only difference is that we have faith. and the others don't. it's very simple.

if i have offended anybody here, i am deeply sorry and it was unintentional.

God Bless!

My question to you is why do you think being a Christian means that someone is perfect? No Christian claims to be perfect (if they really are a believer), we are all working out our "bugs" and some people have a problem with gossip, others with manners, others with sex, etc. But the idea is we are trying to be better with God's guidance. We are all at different levels of our walk and that means different behaviors. And don't forget, anyone can say they are a Christian, that doesn't mean they really have that in their heart. I have met my share of witchy women who gossip, back stab, lie, etc. who claim to be believers but I know they aren't by how they live their lives.

Wow, some harsh answers are being tossed around.

The difficulty you are having is based entirely on your assumptions and expectations. You are assuming the following:

1.) Merely because someone says they are a Christian, they are.
2.) Christians are special and different people.

Addressing the easy one first - people lie. They lie for many reasons. They lie to themselves. Christians do it. Buddhists do it. Muslims do it. Atheists do it. See my answer below.

Regarding the second assumption, Christians are humans and have the same basic nature of man that everyone has. That nature is a selfish nature, full of pride and arrogance (among its other flaws). The only difference between Christians and non-Christians is that Christians are aware of what is needed to bridge the chasm between themselves and their Creator. This does not mean that they will sin less or sin more. It just means that they are aware of the eternal consequences (explain why a smoker won't quit when faced with cancer and heart failure in 4 decades and you'll understand our ability to deceive ourselves about long-term implications of bad decisions).

Anyway, this answer is a very short and overly simplistic answer - I hope it causes you to at least identify your own assumptions and maybe even ask yourself how you can know the qualities and characteristics of God.

That is a really good question. And it's sad but true. I believe, as a christian, that when you are living your life right and for Christ that you want to be different. The bible says we are to be a peculiar (spelling?) people. Meaning, the world should be able to look at us, or listen to us talk and know the difference in christians and the world. It's hard sometimes. But I truly believe, that if you're genuinly born again, people can tell the difference in you and someone who is not. Don't get me wrong, even christians have a bad day now and again. But you're right, there should be a difference.

Did not want to leave you empty , but would offer you something to truly understand: Christianity is a Journey. It leads you down your path of understanding - one step at a time. So many are still babies in kindergarten on their Journey. Some have graduated to higher levels of courses and learning. They seem more mature in their relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Do not despair when you meet the Christians who have not learned enough on their Journey to demonstrate or show to others what Jesus desires to teach them. But do respect that an effort of some type is being made by them - to begin. "Do not cast the first stone and miss seeing the block in your own eyes." That is how I would change that famous quote to read.

Ask Jesus for a relationship with Him. Let Him teach you one-on-one. Let Him tell you of what He knows and begin your own Journey. There will be a point in time when all Children of God have finally learned the great lessons and all know the same things together. The world isn't at that point yet! May you be blessed and continue to "eye" the Journey. Lana S.

Most likely they are either very new to the faith or are not truly "saved" as they say. A true child of the faith will be known by their "fruit".In other words, by the way they act. Remember there are hypocrites in the world as well. Just look at those Hollywood environmentalists who run around in big SUVs and have huge houses that waste so much energy and resources. Don't let someone Else's actions dictate what you believe or do. It is up to you to decide whats best for you. Besides, you will be judged by how you are doing, not how someone else is.

If we were perfect, we would be Christ. But I do agree, what you described is not Christian behavior. Many like to claim they are Christians, but without practicing it, they are no different than anyone else. It's just a word. Real Christianity comes from the heart and from the soul.

No Jesus, No Peace. Know Jesus, Know Peace.

Why they are rude? cause they believed they are already saved. They forget to behave as a true christian, a christ-like behavior.
The people who claimed to be christian yet, not following the teaching of Christ and the apostles, are the one who give bad light on religion and the Bible. That is why there are many atheist today, cause self-professed christian are not good model for others to see. Teaching of Christ is to deny oneself, to deny our ego, our self. To be humble at all times. That is why many failed to be a true christian. Cause their ego is so huge.
Being a true christian in today's world are a real challenged, its really tough. But is surely feel good. It gives peace and true happiness. Erasing doubts and fears.

Do you understand why it is so important for men to change their hearts and minds? Why Jesus said to follow Him and not others? Many Christians need to evaluate themselves. Did they really accept the Spirit, or do they just go through the motions? Will they ever understand that if they truely love Jesus, they would not be able to commit such offenses without being convicted in their hearts by the Spirit? But the good news is, even though men are prone to fall, they have been forgiven in Jesus' name, and carry with them the gift of the Spirit to guide them in Christs' path. Remind them of this gently.
