Hey guy!!
I feel you. I flew to OZ and NZ last year and I was on a 14hr flight from LA to Sydney. I watched a lot of inflight movies!
Plus, they had games you could play so I did a lot of that. I also read a portion of my book I brought with me. And lastly, I SLEPT!!! I was very refreshed by the time I landed so I didnt need to nap when I arrived at 7am. Went to the hotel and went straight to site seeing. You can also bring some puzzles if you're into doing sudko or however you spell that, or logic puzzles. Bring your MP3 player as you suggested is another good one, esp if you sleep you can try to listen to something relaaxing and block out those crying babies, LOL! Or the guy next to you that is snoring (I hope that doesnt happen to you though EEK)
So yeah, those are some of the things I brought with me. I know you hate reading, but I had a new camera, so I took and read the manual as well so by the time I got to Sydney I knew how to use my camera a little bit more.
You can probably make a new friend on the plane, too. Maybe theres a nice lookin lady there and you can start talking to her, maybe join the mile high club if she's willing. HEHE :)
I can't think of anything else really. Hook up with a flight attendant, LOL!!!

As some other's mentioned, an MP3 player, or a portable DVD player helps pass some of the time. The longest trip I took was 12 hours. I'm not so sure you'll be in the air for 21 hours, so maybe during any lay-over time you could get a new magazine, a book or perhaps a meal.
I've seen people who are into video games play those a lot too.
Have safe travels.

There will be movies and video games. Magazines will help pass the time too. You will have like 5 or 10 movies to watch on a schedule, in addition to meals. Bring a cloth and soap so you can freshen up in the bathrooms...you'll get nasty. This is 21 hours in addition to the time you'll spend at the airports...my trip to Australia from Michigan was an experience.
The carrier will make sure you're not bored out of your mind. You will have an area where you can stretch and stand up. I wouldn't worry, the movies aren't bad, you can see where the plane currently is on your personal screen, look at the news, among other things.
I believe you can go onto Qantas.com, or the airline's website to see what's playing...
Oh yeah, for some weird reason, the entire time I flew both ways, it was always night. We came into Australia right in the morning, quite a cool experience...flying into Sydney in the morning.

I am so used to flying crazy long hours! We lived in Miami and flew to Japan often because I have family there. And well, that's an 18 hour flight! My advice to you: bring along some snacks, you are allowed to use your mp3 player on the flight, maybe grab some riddle books or crossword puzzles, SLEEP, write a short story or a poem, talk to people around you given they seem friendly enough, play some games on your cell phone (if available)... hm... if you have a laptop, bring that, but given you're flying so far, I'm not sure how cumbersome it will be for you to bring it.
Anyway, those are my suggestions and examples of what I've done in the past. Good luck!

I have been on MANY!!!!! long flights!!!
i usually just sleep the whole time lol but i still suggest a laptop, a game boy, once i went on a long flight with my family and we played cards or you can talk to the people around you if you want i like to do that lol and I'm pretty sure you can use a mp3player or ipod or CD players. but i think the BEST thing it just to sleep lol
Hope you dont get bored lol
Have a GREAT trip

The flight will be split into sleeping times and daylight times so try to have a sleep, watch some inflight TV, listen to your MP3 player, eat, walk about and try to make the best of a lousy situation.

Maybe you don't pick the right book? I try to pick something that is entertaining and about the place I am visiting. There are lots of stories (fiction) based on the history of the place you go. It doesn't just fill up the time, it gets you excited about where you are going and when you get there, it has more meaning for you.
Or you could get drunk and then have a hangover...

Yes you are allowed to use MP3 players on planes, but the best option is to just sleep if you can. There will be the in-flight entertainment too.
