Make sure they are also eating dry dog food. Mothers milk alone is not enough. Also, have you wormed them yet? All puppies are born with worms and need to be wormed. They should have their first dose now. You can get wormer over the counter.

My advice is to call the vet and make an appointment. Most vets will have you bring in one puppy and then give you any treatment needed for the entire litter. At least then you will know if it is serious or not.

Good Luck!

They should be on a puppy chow at this time. Mom will dry up. But not just any food. Preferably a puppy chow for large breed dogs. Purina makes a good one (that's what my 15 week boxer eats). Large breed formulas have the specific vitamins and minerals for puppies who will become large. It will need to be softened with a puppy formula. We used a dry infant formula (with my vet's approval) mixed with water and softened the food with it. By eight weeks, the puppies were eating the solid food without the need to soften it.

Be sure they have been wormed, that can be purchased over the counter. Also, have them checked at the vet if you haven't already. They will need their first puppy shots soon.

Also some boxers can become anemic while puppies (mine did). He takes Liqui-tinic 4X twice a day and his hematocrit level is fine now. You can find out if the vitamins are necessary with a blood test.

You can buy from the breeder but it will be expensive. You can get from the Rescue and it will be cheaper. It will be aroun $1000 - $1,500 for regular non-show dog. However, in the rescue, you don't know the past of the dog so if there's a problem with temperment then you need to be ready in dealing with it. About the doberman from the breeder, you can look on the breeders other dogs about the temperments and you can ask the problem of the breed and can give you more information about the doberman. Look it like this, getting a dog from a rescue is like buying a fish from General petstore on which most of the employees are like students or some have only few knowledge about the pet. But getting a dog from a breeder is like buying a fish from a fish and aquarium only store. Either way, you get what you want buy it will varies from prices and the future companionship of both of you. Others will say that don't get dogs from a breeder because there's a lot of dogs in the rescue but if you are looking for a show dog, only breeder can give you that. If your looking for just s pet and you are out of budget then you can just get from a rescue. Just weight the pros and cons. It's all about yourself on how you deal things and not others. Just and advice, if you are planning to get a dog from a breeder then please love the dog and keep it because we don't want to have a lot of dogs in the rescue. Hope this help.

They should have been on soaked dry food at 3 weeks of age and be eating dry food by now. Mom is done nursing. Dogs are not like humans in the fact that they will keep lactating. Moms body will stop producing usually about 4-5 weeks. You need to get them on regular food and let Mom dry up before she gets mastitis. If you don't you'll have more problems than you want!

If you haven`t been worming them, they no doubt have worms. Some puppies can actually have hook worms which can be passed through the mother during the pregnancy. Hook worms can kill a puppy as they get in the intestines and suck their blood. I bought a Boxer puppy and this was his problem. He had to be put on an I.V. and was very anemic. There are many types of worms and different treatments for them. Please take them to a Vet immediately.

It is hard for sweet little things like that to gain weight because they are so active and energetic.. At 5 1/2 weeks.. old.. you should start them on dry dog food and not let them depend on their mother's milk.. because she is probably drying up by now

Yes, it is time to start putting them on solid food. I usually mix dry puppy kibble with puppy formula (to soften it) to get them started. You may also soften the puppy food with water if you have no formula. Each time you feed them, use less and less liquid until they can easily eat the hard, dry food. Watch them at first to be sure they do not choke on the hard kibble...

They should have their puppy visit to the vet too, though. Good luck!

I hate all these answers that say take them to the vet....That's just common sense....I think they are just looking for 2 points..If you don't have a good answer, you aren't helping anyone out!...I'm sure all the problem is , is that they need to be moved to puppy chow asap.....They are at the age that they can't get all the nutrients they need from mom.....Good Luck!!.....P.S. They probobly need to be wormed also!
