Most of my flights have been at 0' dark thirty in the morning or night, so.... stretch out and close my eyes for a rest. If I'm awake on that rare occassion, I have my laptop along to play games or I bring a book to read, or catch up on calling people I haven't talk to in a long time (cell phone)... man what would I do without technology?!?

Depends on the airport. Osaka and Washington Dulles have excellent shopping. Tokyo Narita has inexpensive coin operated internet kiosks. LAX has interesting people. Norfolk (Virginia) has a video arcade straight out of the early 1980s. Seattle has a meditation room (no kidding).

Watch people especially pretty girls. Drink coffee, try to read a book, go window shopping or when time permits take a bus tour around the city like we did in Miami.

I have always a bag full of magazines a couple of books.
Also some airports in Europe are Hugh shopping malls, which can easily kill a few hours.
In Paris there is even a chapel

I would pay up to 10 usd for 24 hours just like the hotels charge. No more.
