I'm going to a new public school next school year and I'm 15. I'm so scare the girls won't like me. My last school was terrible (which was private), they picked at me because I wasn't a gangster. I don't talk like a surfer guy, but I spoke clearly. They called it speaking "white". I'm not an ugly guy. How do you deal with a new school?

You sound like somebody I would get along with right away. Just be yourself, if nobody likes you, that's their problem. Don't try and force yourself to be somebody you aren't.

Just be yourself. You sound like a fine person, and being yourself will be the best thing you can do. If you have athletic talent, go out for a sport. That will give you immediate friends. Or, join a club in the school such as the Recycling Club, a foreign language club, the yearbook staff, or the school newspaper staff. It is not at all easy going to a new school, especially as a teenager. However, you will be accepted for who you are. It may take a few weeks, but it will happen as you find new friends.

Good Luck!!

Some of my friends that moved over from private schools said they hated being in private schools and they told me that people in public schools are more welcoming. I guess it's because there are a bigger variety of people at a public school. This also varies based on the demographics. If you are really worried, you can search online for the school you plan to attend to find out the population ratios etc. or just go visit it beforehand.

Be yourself. You'll eventually find someone that likes you and you'll feel good about it because they will like you for who you really are. No matter where you are there will always be people who pick on you or make fun of you but don't take it personally. Those people are just bored with their own lives or they are jealous of you. They make fun of people to boost their own self esteem. Also it is just something for them to do. You just have to look past it and don't be afraid to be yourself. Public schools usually have more people and more diversity than private schools so you should have no trouble finding someone like you. Also it might help to join clubs and sports that you are interested in. That way you make new friends with similar interests. The most important thing, though, is to always be yourself. Hope this helps and good luck with your new school.

I was a navy brat. My father was a navy captain and we moved every 18TH month somewhere different. You can get use to anything. Don't let them pick on you!
