I totally support your cause. I have 4 dogs, all of which are rescues. I give to my local Humane Society and I call Animal Control when I find a lost dog or see one in distress.

I encourage you not to encourage people to "buy" these animals, but rather to "adopt" them. Yes, we "buy" our pets, but do we really "own" them?. Adopt them -- make them part of the family. I told my husband before we got married -- YOU'LL go before they go.

There are many, many, many shelter dogs out there that are great dogs and would make great family members. There is NOTHING wrong with adopting a dog from a shelter or a rescue. I wish more people would do that rather than paying out the *** for a pure bred dog.

At my local Humane Society now, there are 2 mixed breeds that have been at the shelter for about 6 years. The 2 dogs are "best friends" and the shelter would like to see them go to the same home. I made an offer to pay $100 towards their adoption fees to whomever adopts them. Conditions are that they must adopt both dogs, agree to keep them on heartworm preventative and flea preventative year rounds and that the dogs must live INSIDE.

Make the meeting fun by bringing in a couple of the really cute, younger dogs, and also by brining in a couple of the older, not so cute dogs. All dogs should have a chance at a good life with people that love them. It shouldn't be based on how cute they are, but unfortunately, people always want the ones that are cute.

I've got an 18 month (or so) chow-lab mix -- he sure aint cute, but he's happy and I wouldn't trade him for anything.

I've gotten all my animals from a shelter or Humane Society. I've always gotten 5 Years or older until the last one. I had to have my 14 year old dog put down in April. It was so painful I don't know if I'll ever be able to get another one. Instead I got a 2 month old kitten. I love her to death. I'm with you on this completely. You might not get a purebred at a shelter but mutts and such make just as loving and loyal pets if not better from my experience. Bless you and good luck on your endeavor.

Have some rules yes rules are necessary. Be clear on what you expect from members. Think of different fund raisers that you could have to raise money for the local humane society, You can sell candy or other things. Do research and make up some pamphlets or flyer's on why people should adopt from the humane society as opposed to buying from breeders and or places like pet finders.com. I got my dog from pet finders.com because it was cheaper than the humane society. So I know your going to have to come up with some really good material to convince people otherwise. Good luck.

If you visit the Humane Society's website, they can give you many statistics that will force people to realize the problem of dog and cat overpopulation in this country. Hopefully it will make them feel bad for the pets dying in shelters and drive them to adopt!

You also may want to consider using your spell check button before submitting things. Honestly it will make people take you more seriously.

But thank you for caring, and spreading the message! I used to work at an animal shelter, and I have seen firsthand the devastation caused by overpopulation.

If you could somehow raise money to have the animals that are in the humane society get fixed and have all their shots. That way people will be more apt to adopt a pet that already has it's shots. One idea is to have a fund set aside where you deposit your fundraiser money. When someone adopts an animal, money from that fund can be used for shots or fixing. You keep replenishing that fund with money raised with your fundraisers. (car washes, etc)

The sad thing is you ask this question over and over and STILL you can't even spell "Humane Society". People ARE NOT going to take you seriously if you cannot use spell check or take the time to use a dictionary!!!!!! It is a fact of life!!!! Present yourself as smart and you will be treated smart and get some smart people to help you!!!!!!!!

I have counted a minimum of 7 times you asked this type question, and haven't spelled it right ONCE!!

play an ice breaker when your members meet up, like a match game - print out pictures of celebrities, then pics of their pets. match the celebrity with his/her pet.
