Please advise on the advantages and disadvantages of them

If you don't NEED awd, forget about it. It makes a car heavier, reducing mpg. Also, with awd, you cannot mix tires that are worn with new ones. They ALL must have the same amount of wear on them, or you will damage the drive train.
Lets say your tires are worn 50% and one blows out and needs to be replaced. You have to replace all four or find one with the same wear as the old one.

FWD can get pretty weird when it loses traction, sicne it is your steering wheels. Pulls you thru snow.
4X4 takes quite a bit to lose traction and does'nt act as weird when it does. But don't forget stopping is still the same.

well the biggest advantage with a all wheel drive is traction and stability....dis advantage if it breaks it costs $$$$to fix

AWD is for Pulling thing going in deep sand or snow and all that stuff and FWD is for just quickness...
