We recieved our cat six years ago from a friend at around six months old,the last time we hears him meow he was very six and it was more of a moan. Recently he began talking ( meowing ) to us as well as sitting in front of the front door meowing as if he wants to go out, but as mentioned earlier he was sick if he geos outside he could become sick again, so we don't allow him out.Can anyone tell me why he would start talking at 7 years old.

Maybe he didn't have anything to say in the first six years.

He may sense other cats outside. Is he neutered? Even if he is he could still react to other cats in the neighborhood. Do not let him out, it's not safe for many reasons. It dosen't necessarily mean anything bad, but you should tell your vet about this new development. Any signifigant change in behavior may be a sign of illness. If there is anything wrong with him it could be something as common as a urinary tract problem. Watch out for other behavior such as loss of appetite or failure to use the litterbox. If he's showing any signs of stuff like that, definately get him an appointment with your vet. In the meantime, try to distract him from the door with toys or catnip. A cat window perch can be set in most windows without any hardware and satisfy the urge to know what's going on outdoors.

my cats were ruining furniture so we had to keep them in the basement and when we did that they found their voice allot they don't like having freedom then be confined don't let him out but try to find more ways he can have freedom like my cat likes to sit in the lil hammock in the basement we don't stop him cause he likes it and the other one likes the older lawn chair that looks out on the pond in the back yard. find something he can enjoy and let him or her enjoy it! *_*
