Phantom of the opera ending?

Let me first start out by saying THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA ROCKS!!!! (this is talking about the musical. not the movie) now that i've gotten that out, here are some random questions that i have.
1) I didn't get why Christine kissed the Phantom and then left with Rauol.
2) who are the people that climb down the gate and find the phantom's mask(at the end)?
3) who is the person in the wheel chair in the begining that recognizes the monkey music box?
4) is the phantom dead and actually the angel of music that Christine's father sent?

1) I didn't get why Christine kissed the Phantom and then left with Rauol.
-She kissed him out of pity after he throws that fit in the lair: "Pitiful creature of darkness, what kind of life have you known, god gave me courage to show you you are not alone"
She leaves him because he tells her to, she knows he can not live with her.

2) who are the people that climb down the gate and find the phantom's mask(at the end)?
Those people are just like guards and stuff, and Meg who are looking for the Phantom after he kills Piangi "Track down this murderer he must be found..."

3) who is the person in the wheel chair in the begining that recognizes the monkey music box?
Raoul as Old man Raoul. The auction scene takes place in the future. When he sings, he's talking about Christine and the music box.

4) is the phantom dead and actually the angel of music that Christine's father sent?
That's up to your imagination. He not dead during the show, but it's questionable what happens to him after he disappears.

To add to what everyone else has said:

Christine kissed the phantom because he made her make a choice between him or Rauol. She was engaged to Rauol and so that's where her heart was. But the phantom loved her and wanted her for himself. So he strung Rauol up and told her that he would kill Rauol if she left him, but that Rauol could live is she stayed with the phantom. So she kissed him to show her choice - she would rather live with the phantom than see her lover and fiance killed. The phantom let her and Rauol leave when he heard the stage hands and actors coming down to catch him for the murders he had done. He also realized that Christine loved Rauol so much that she would sacrifice herself for his life and that she was only staying because he made her. So he realizes that theirs (Christine and Rauol) is a true love and his love would be unrequited. So he lets them leave together.

The people who find the mask are the actors and stage hands - the girl who holds the mask at the end is Meg.

Rauol is the person in the wheelchair at the beginning. He recognizes the monkey music and the story then goen into a flashback of the time he remembers from dealing with the phantom.

The phantom was not dea - as said above he was someone living in the theatre who became fixated on CHristine and used her longing for the "angel of music" to make her trust him and hopefully fall in love with him. Whether or not he died after they found his mask - who knows?

First, ME TOO!!!!! To answer your questions,
1st: The only reason the Phantom kidnapped Christine was because he loved her so much, and Christine kissing him was all he wanted, even though she still loved Raoul.
2nd: The people are the crew members of the opera house, like Joseph Buquet was before he died. And Meg.
3rd: The man is Raoul, in his old age. Christine is already dead, and he remembered the incident with the Phantom.
4th: The Phantom is not actually dead. Madame Giry explains that to Raoul. He is just a sad lonely man who has heard Christine tell Meg about her father's angel of music and he loves her, and that's the only way he can get close to her. I think she realizes he's not really the angel in the cemetery scene, when he's swordfighting with Raoul. An angel would not have wanted to fight, it would have just flown away. And Raoul would not have been able to catch him off guard the way he did when he almost killed the Phantom.

1. Christine kissed the phantom because she loved him but she left with Raoul coz that's where her heart is.

2. the people who went down the lair was Meg Giry the ballerina and some of the theater crew and some policemen.

3. The Person in the wheel chair was Raoul

4. it could be coincidental. coz the phantom was taken by Mme. Giry long before Christine had to live in the opera house so the phantom apeared to be the angel of music who teaches her and guides her.

2. The people climbing down the gate are Meg (from the ballet) and other backstage workers at the Paris Opera house.
3. This was Raoul.
4. No. The phantom was alive, knew about the stories from her father about the angel of music and capitalized on them to entice Christine.

1)I'm too sure why she kissed him at the end, I think she was trying to persuade not to kill Raoul.
2)They are the stage hands at the opera house. Also other people who are Christine's friends.
3)That is Raoul years after the story
4)The phantom is a man that is supposedly a genius, who falls in love with Christine, and charms her into believing that he's the angel her father said he'd send for her.
Read the book, it answers a lot of questions like these.
