Many reasons. My top three reasons for people doing this are....

(1) some people actually think misspelling words makes them look cool.

(2) Many times in order to choose the correct spelling in spell checker, you must know how to spell the word :)

(3) You get all wrapped up in writing a post and you send it without thinking about your spelling, and the effect your misspelled words will have on the content of your writings.

Yes, what you have to say is important, but how you spell it is equally important.

Unfortunately, the average reading age of adults in the UK is that of an averagely educated 9 year-old. With the dumbing-down of lessons in school, and the fact that 41 out of 100 has become an acceptable pass-mark in exams, it isn't surprising that many posters to this site can't spell. Children can now 'cut and paste' enough coursework to get them to university where, after remedial classes, they can work towards a PhD in either 'Air-Guitar' or 'The Simpsons'.
In as little as three generations from now Emoticons will have replaced the written word entirely.
In a thousand years someone will translate our history just like we did with Egyptian hieroglyphs and the scenario will repeat ad infinitum.
Suggested reading: Fahrenheit 451, A Clockwork Orange, Harrison Bergeron and other 'Dystopian' novels.
Buy four now (sic).

It doesn't take long to click the option to check spelling, but obviously some don't bother. Then we have those who use there and they're for their which is even more annoying. I can cut slack when it's obvious English is a second language for a poster of course. It does make you wonder though.

Due the fact that Yahoo! Answers has made available an Spell Check option, the only possible answer to your question is laziness.

Sometimes you have to know how to spell a word to find out if it is correct...and some don't get even close...so it can't be corrected. We also have a lot of kids...so you know how that is. I am a bit anal about it myself...but that's because I am self-taught...and if I can do it; then anyone can do it...but truthfully, I am not hung up on it for others. I enjoy it when people are who they are. It's more rewarding...and you learn more this way. I say just "Let them be."

Because people are trying to be the first to answer so they don't have time to spell check.

a lot of these people are not from america and do not know the language. spell checking does not work if you can't get close enough to a real word

Some people really are just intellectually challenged...and then others, like me-are just too lazy to run spell check...LOL

because people don't want to waste time checking spelling, even though it would only take a couple of seconds
