The classic deep knee bend will really harden up your thighs, but are to be avoided if you have any problems with your knees.

Running in place for 5 or 10 minutes a day will give you incredible calves. It may sound silly, but you'll really feel it the next day; so much so it will actually hurt if you aren't in all that great of shape.

Walking is a great exercise, the best by far for the average person. Walk fast and uphill if you can.

If you really want to look 'strong' rather than just 'firm', you need to do some squats, essentially deep knee bends with weights. Get someone to show you good technique so you don't wind up injuring yourself.

Good luck!
