The fleas will never all go in the bowl and you have to do this in every room.
Try this, vacuum the floors, then sprinkle Twenty Mule Team Borax on the carpeting. Repeat this as often as you vacuum for at least 2-3 weeks. The borax in the product will kill fleas in the carpet. As the flea eggs hatch, the borax will kill them.

I have not heard of that one...I would also do other things in addition...I would vacuum the carpet real well too, and put Frontline on your animals for a few months in a row (i.e. once per month for 3 months). If you live in a warm climate, you may have to use Frontline year round...
I do not recommend flea collars on animals, put know some people but them in their bagless vacuum (or find a way to put it in vacuum bag - then vacuum the carpet and let the fleas die in there.)

That won't work. Get some flea medicine or give your pets baths in flea shampoo & vacuum your carpets well.

I wouldn't recommend doing that. The cat may accidentally drink it thiniing it's his or her drinking water, and get sick from it.
