serious question?

the "prophet mohammed" had a 6 year old wife!!!! someone explain this one to me.

Yeah, but he did not rape..err..I mean consummate the marriage until she was the ripe old age of 9. :) I once had a Muslim explain to me that he was kind and gentle, and waited until she was old enough to make decisions on her own (which I guess is the age or 6) before marrying her.

There's no explanation for it. It's wrong, it's child molestation. People argue that it was a different time, a different culture, but you know what? A 6 or 9 year old is too young to abuse that way. Especially by someone old enough to be her grandfather. I don't care what time you live in, or what culture you hail from. That's my opinion. As a grown man with a young daughter, I have no respect for this Mohamed character to me he's just a disgusting child molester and if he got anywhere near my daughter he would get a .357 magnum dead in the guts (i'd want him to suffer).

This is an incredible question. . .and the responses are quite informative.

Ditto on the customs of the time (and location). . .that "arranged" marriages worked this way. . .but they were not physically consummated until she was of age (i.e., puberty). Others here may be aware of the specifics involving the Prophet Mohammed though.

Now the Torah Commandments (613 to be found in the first five books of the Bible or Torah) are starting to look relatively more merciful, no? And to appreciate that Judaism (and Christianity which took its cue from Judaism). . .for its time in antiquity. . .was fairly progressive in the establishment of rights for females, likely from its encounters from Egyptian culture. Consider that the "ketubah" (marriage contract) since its beginnings to the present set forth in writing. . .with witnesses. . .the rights that the female had. . .and the right to divorce albeit conditionally. . .not what the male or both parties reciprocally had!

Mohommed never claimed to be good or a mesiah or anything, he simply was a prophet, and that was all he said he was. The Koran I believe says thats Allah made the words pour forth from his mouth.. Also, "back in the day" it was not uncommon to have a young wife, no matter how old, most marriages were to confirm friendships between families, and to gain better economic standings. I dont know if he did have a wife that was 6 years old, however if he did, it must of not really been that uncommon back then, for his country and/or tribe.

Note that the behavior of muslims for our Prophet Muhammad is least like that of christians for Prophet Jesus. World has recently noted the reaction of Muslims.

Anyway, that doesn't surprise me, if men could get away with it these days, how many would do that? far too many and far too disgusting for me to think about.
In India and some places around the world still, women are taken as brides as young as 9 years old to ensure that she is a virgin.

I know muslims believe that when they get to heaven a buch of virgens will be waiting for them.... (wonder where they came from, not earth I bet) Does make you wonder how old the virgins in heaven will be doesnt it?
Also makes you wonder why they are not a bit more carefull with there bodies....nothing left to do in heaven with a blown up body (or will they have spiritual sex?)

My grandfather "married" his wife when she was that young. Of course, he didn't consumate the marriage! Soon after he came to American and didn't make enough money to bring her over for another ten years, and they didn't have their first child until she aws about nineteen and he was twenty-nine.
