Today, Pitbulls have a reputation of being aggressive and viscous due to irresponsible owners and breeders. Pitbulls have carried this stigma for years, but I would like to see it stopped.
In recent years, breeders and owners have been reported and prosecuted for improperly training and breeding Pitbulls. Many low-income areas around the nation have adopted this practice, along with dog fighting, as a means of enjoyment and entertainment. As a result, Pitbulls have fallen victim to inhumane practices and immoral treatment. Today, abuse and neglect of this breed has proved very common, while the breed alone is being blamed.
Dispite today's stigma, there are many attributes to owning and breeding Pitbulls.
Unsurpassed loyalty and devotion
Easily trainable and well-mannored
Overwhelming desire to love and to be loved
A temperament comparable to Golden Retrievers
Regular 'employees' to rescue and police facilities across the nation
A very strong desire to please 'on and off the job'
The attributes listed are just a few characteristics of the Pitbull breed. However, as long as irrresponsible handlers and breeders continue to subject Pitbulls to abuse and neglect for entertainment, the stigma of aggression and threat will never fade.
It is a hope of many that society may one day make their own assumptions of this breed based on knowledge and education, not on sensationalized reports of isolated accounts of mistreatment gone bad.

Pitt bulls are mostly associated with very aggressive gaurd dogs. I think their really cute though. They also might look scary to some people to. Pitt bulls are also the only breed of dog that can pull up to 30 times its weight. They are also bought by people who just want a dog to protect them, not to love. Pittbulls are very affectionate. I have a friend who has a pittbull and she is the sweetest thing. They're also funny.

People just go by what they hear. The press will focus on a pittbull attack over another breed attacking because they know people are already afraid & are drawn to it. Also, there are cases when another breed may be mistaken for a pit & then it is reported to be a pit attack.
I have had a male pit in the past & he was a big sweet baby. The meanest dog that I have been around was a Jack Russel . It's not the breed of the dog, it is how they are treated.

Hmmmm people give some dumb answers on here... Pitts are only aggresive when trained to be so or abused. A good trained pitt will rarely attack someone unless it feels it or its owner is in danger. And some pitts wont attack at all for any reason. I have a puppy that is not a pitt and she plays with my husband's sister's dog who is a full grown pitt. She will bitt and pull on the pitts ears and the pitt just sits there and looks at her like shes dumb. So really I believe it is all in how the pitt is raised.

Pit Bulls have extremely powerful jaw muscles. It is naturally agressive to other animals, has a strong prey drive, and can be agressive towards humans if it feels threatened, territorial or feels its owners are being threatened, REGARDLESS OF ACTUAL THREAT. They have a compulsive instinct to fight, which is ingrained in their genetic makeup. Once it latches on with those powerful jaws, the damage can be very severe, even deadly. That is why many people are afraid of pit bulls on sight. Yes, your dog may seem very sweet. What are you going to do if a friend is over at your house and play-slaps you on the arm? The dog could perceive that as a threat to you, and attack that person. Also, most of the dog attacks you hear about are done by pit bulls.

I agree with Benny G. I have an American Bulldog and everyday I go with Dog Walkers to a huge leashfree park. They have at least 30 dogs at a time and they all get along great with each other and people who pass by. The dogs are of all breeds icluding Pitbulls and I haven't seen one fight. It's all in the upbringing, I feel sorry for the Pitts. Leave it up to man to mess things up.

I happen to own/breed/raise rottweilers. I will not allow a "vicious" puppy rottweiler to live. If I see from the womb that they have any hint of aggression they are dead right away. I have a rescue rott. She was beaten by drug/alcohol abusers and men. I got her when she was just over a year old. I have known the breeder my whole life and it just so happens that she picked a wrong home for my rescue. That's how I got her. It took her 7 days before she ate anything at all. From then she would only eat from my hand. That lasted about 3 weeks. From there we moved on to my dad. He was very sad as no animal has ever been afraid of him. It took 8 months and me staying the night at my friends house for her to warm up to my dad. I have know this blood line for my whole life. I couldn't ask for a better dog. I wish there were restrictions on people and not dogs!
A DOG IS ONLY AS SMART AS ITS HUMAN!!!!
I was at the park one day and this lady told her kids to stay away from my dog because she was a rott. Well we had left that area and I had put her back pack on her thinking we were going to be out for a while. Same lady. Same kids. Oh look at that dog! She is so cute! ------Honestly people I don't get it
ALSO...
DOGS ARE ONLY NATURALLY AGGRESSIVE IF THEY HAVE BRED TO BE THAT WAY OR HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO BE THAT WAY!!!

It's becouse most pittbulls are attack dog so people are scared of them. The only reason that they are actually harmful is becouse their owners starve them so they would be furios. So I feel sorry for your dog.
