I’m so scared and have no idea what to do…

Here’s the history: I developed disordered eating as frosh in ’06. I starved myself for 3 mos. before friends told res staff on me. I Was livid but now (2 mos. later) eat normally & love them for stopping me early. But I go back to Uni in a month and am still SO fat (Size 10 @ 5’4”). Purging has never worked for me but now I want it to desperately. I try each day and find myself jealous of friends who were bulimic. I know this is terrible but I can’t stop.

I binge, can’t purge, so am getting fatter, I diet and gym it each day and don’t want to starve myself again but am afraid I will.

I am SO unhappy. I don’t know if what I had in Uni was an ED and don’t think I have one now but it’s a problem. I can’t let friends know I’m here again.

I am soooo scared…Willing to correspond with anyone…please, PLEASE HELP ME!!

5'4" and size 10 is not fat.
Have you noticed that now that you are at a healthy weight that your skin is looking vibrant. Also you probably don't get sick as often.
Not sure why you are jealous of a bulimic friend. That is not healthy and takes a toll on your digestive system let alone the other systems.
Check with your familt DR. or your university probably has a health clinic. If your University has either a medical, dietician or Human kinetics program, you might find additional assistance. there.
Online support groups may be helpful too. You need to develop a healthy body image for yourself

Start with changing what you eat. You have to have balanced meals, but they don't have to put fat on you. Try this, 3 ounces of protein a meal with fish (preferably salmon or tuna) 2-3 times a week. For your carbohydrates, find a glycemic index and only eat those foods at the low end of the glycemic scale, like spinach and other green leafy veges. Fruits are good too. Then, when you feel you have to have a snack, have peanuts or almonds. You will be eating healthy but not fat.

Also, you may want to check out www.hufa.org to see what may be making you unhappy in the first place, and feel fat and have an ED. I would love to be your dress size and would not consider myself fat if I was there. I am 5'5".

Your need to starve might be a side effect of hyperinsulinemia.

Best wishes.

Try to find something to do around the house. If you are eating because you are bored, pick up a book or magazine and start reading. Also you can start a hobby like birdwatching or feeding birds. You can also just go for a walk around a park or a neighborhood, it will help get your mind off of food. If you have a dog or know someone that has a dog, you should even try to take it for a walk! Drinking water whenever you feel like eating but your not really hungry will help too.

Just try to find things that will keep you busy and not have to think about food.

GOOD LUCK!

Sweetie,

I don't think that a size 10 at 5 ' 4" is SO fat. First of all, you must love you before anything else. There are many things out there that can help you. First being your parents (if they are still alive). Go to them and tell them these things, and maybe they can suggest something. Secondly, a doctor. Discuss a weight loss plan with your doctor if you are in fact overweight. There are safe weight loss plans out there. Your doctor needs to assess you and find out how much, if any, weight you should lose. They can tell you pretty much to the pound how much you are over, and how much you are under. Third, go see a counselor. They, too can be reassuring. If you ever need to talk, please email. tab42104@yahoo.com

Why don't you try the correct way, which is running and exercising. You can eat what you want and still look good.

Secondly...you put way too much importance on how you look to others. You were apparently happy with yourself before going back to Univ. so why change now? You're going to Univ. for an education. It's not a social club. Put things in the right perspective and the right priority. Your health being the first priority. Act like an educated young lady and put your common sense to use.

One: Size 10 at 5'4'' is not fat, it just sounds fat because we are told that women should have sizes in the single digits.

Two: You are right to be afraid that your eating disorder will come back, but you are doing well to admit it and to stay aware of it. When you go back to school, make sure that you have healthy food available, and try to take all your meals with friends, and have them stay with you afterwards so that you are unable to escape and purge. Don't isolate yourself from your friends because you're embarrassed or scared, they are the best thing that can happen to you.

I wish you luck, and don't be afraid of gaining weight. It is normal to gain when you are recovering from an eating disorder, and when you are fully recovered then you can begin to shape up healthily.

Yes, you have an ED. You need to try* and figure out what you are unhappy about in your life. ED is always about something else. The food is just a way to escape your problems. A treatment center would be helpful, but you'll probably have to take some time off from school. It would be the best thing you could do for yourself because at least it would give you time to figure out what you are angry/sad/hurt/etc about. Best wishes.

Size 10 at 5' 4" is really petite, Honey.

You should talk with someone who has a lot of experience at dealing with what you're going through now. Don't diet: You don't need to. Going to a gym is fine: It'll keep your muscles toned.

Might I suggest getting a hobby that will keep your mind off your weight? Anything that will keep you busy.

Good luck, Sweetheart.

Don't listen to that soup thing. It doesn't work. My friend has the same problem you do and she tried it. It made her sick and she didn't lose any weight what-so-ever. Just try to control how much you eat. Only eat when you are really hungry and only eat enough to where you aren't hungry anymore, but not stuffed full. It takes self-control, but you can do it. I know you can. Hit the gym more. Try to do more fat burning exercises. Good luck!

PLEASE SEE A THERAPIST

seriously, ignore the dude who gave you diet advice and see someone. if you think it might be an eating disorder, you are only hurting yourself if you don't seek help now!!

your friends love you and that is why they told the res staff... and if you are thinking of hiding it, that just means they were probably right.

i was chunky my whole life, about the size you say you were. and i struggled with it A LOT. i never had an eating disorder, but i can understand your jealousy. my sister was slim and people didn't think we were related.

your body is not your life, but you can hurt it a lot with your mind and you need it to survive... please take care of it and see someone before you do something you regret. i don't mean to scare you, but bulimia is what put terri schiavo in the hospital.
