Try these:
- Shrimp tempura maki (roll)
- Unagi maki (unagi = BBQ eel)
- Tuna
- Salmon
These are easy on beginners and will have you hooked, I guarantee. Ooh and also try the California Roll. MOst places have their variation of this classic and it doesn't disappoint either.

I love sushi. In fact i just made some last Friday. The type that i made is Nigiri. Thats with a small rice ball with some type of fish that lays on top of it. My kids don't like raw fish so they like to eat smoked salmon. I would recommend that if you don't like raw fish. The best thing to do is to go out and try it your self. don't be scared to ask questions because they are always happy to ask. I would go to a place like a sushi bar. Thats where you get to sit up close to the chef and actually see how they make it. And if you don't know how to use chop sticks, thats ok. Because sushi is a finger food anyways. Alot of people don't know that. You will also have soy sauce for dipping. Don't let it soak because you don't want salty sushi. They will also give you some wasabi. Some places already put a little of it inside your sushi. But if you like more, just for that little kick, you can add more. Also you will get some pink stuff. Thats ginger. its to cleanse you pallet after each different kinds of sushi that you eat. so that you can really get to tast each one. You don't really have to eat it if you don't like it. Water i guess would be just find. i hope this helps. when you get comfortable with it you might want to try making it at home. You'll find that its a lot cheaper. But you have to find a market place that sells sushi grade fish. =)

If you don't like raw fish but want to try the rolls, try a California roll. It is made of cucumber and avocado with sticky rice and seaweed wrapping on the outside.
Chicken teriyaki - Broiled Chicken in a slightly sweet brown sauce is good for non -roll eaters. You can't go wrong with this one!
The soups are also good, the Udon soups are made of different kinds of broth with thicker spaghetti like noodles.
Ramen are the thinner noodles. Both are good.

Sushi is something you have to kind of figure out... they should have some combinations, like a bento box, that will give you several items to start with. Talk with your server. Also, it's good to go with a big group of people, and they can share a slice of this or that roll with you so that you don't get stuck with something you don't like. :)
