Remember that the drill sergeants are there to help you succeed, not to make you fail. Don't even think of talking back, follow all orders without comments or questions, try to stay friendly with all the other soldiers because you have to work as a team and it can be hell if you get off on the wrong foot. The main thing is to be enthusiastic-you have to remember that you are entering the most noble profession there is, and you have to love it. Basic is tough-they basically break you down and recreate you to form a soldier, but it will also be the time of your life. Once you're graduated and moved onto AIT and then regular duty, you're gonna miss the hell out of it. Good luck, soldier!

Don't buck the system - the whole thing will go more smoothly if you give the training everything you've got and don't go getting an attitude about people calling you names or telling you what to do.
That can be the hardest part - realizing that you've given these people permission to get the lessons across in whatever way they need to. Trust them with the final outcome and learn what they're teaching you without feeling sorry for yourself or getting defensive. The stuff you learn will not only probably save your life, but the lives of others, also.
Self discipline isn't something a lot of people are raised to understand these days, they're just expected to figure it out for themselves. Boot camp doesn't give you that freedom, they demand it of you, so give it all you've got.
And thanks, by the way. I appreciate what you're doing.

Go have your head examined for joining the military with President Bush in office. Your odds of ending up fighting some wrongful war are great. On the positive, at least you will be fighting along side the best soldiers in the world!

ya, be prepared for a LOT of boredom and standing around.
you arent going to basic training on thursday. you will first go to a place where they will have you fill out tons of forms, give you shots, check your medical history, get your initial PT score, etc etc. its basicly 1 week of nonstop standing in line.
so dont get too excited. dont get too ahead of yourself. just relax.
when you DO go to basic training just take it slow. do what the drill sgts tell you but dont freak out and lose your ability to think or see. just go slow and give a strong effort.
you will meet a lot of new people. MANY of the other new soldiers you will be with will be very annoying. lots of ghetto kids, lots of kids who talk ****, but some good kids. be social with everyone no matter how annoying they are or even if they keep you up until 3am rapping...which they probably will do. Just be level headed and dont lose your cool.
the best advice i can give you is to just be calm, be social, and dont let the drill sgts block out your ability to think.
youll be fine, just stay cool.
...o ya, and youre not gonna have a chance to masterbate till like week 8 so be prepared for that. dont be the guy that got caught masterbating!

its best to blend in with everyone else. under no circumstances do you want to stand out. especially the first couple weeks. there is a list of items you cannot have in basic. do not try to smuggle them in. the first week is nothing. the second week you go to your unit. the first thing you do after you run off the cattle car and run a couple laps around your area you will be put in formation and will dump your duffle bag on the ground. the dis will kick through it looking for contraband. dont be like the poor girl whos bottle of perfume got broke and dumped onto everything she had.

As a 30 year veteran of the Marine Corps, I have one thing to say! God Bless you and you make me proud, for all the fighting I have done for this great country! It swells my heart with pride to know there are kids like you ready to stand up.
Advice, Be proud of yourself and listen to your Drill Instructors, They are there to help you, you will hate them at first, But believe in what they are trying to teach you. You will come to Love them. They are there to ,make you crazy at first, but you will soon see that they are helping you work as a team. The team is not only the people you are in Boot Camp with, but all the Millions that have served before you. And also all the Americans that are living free because of the sacrifices, you will make. Trust me, When you are going through boot camp, stop and listen, you will hear the voices of the men and women that have gone before you, it is a sacred trust, a feeling that only people that have been there understand. As you go through this you will feel the pride that they and me, are in trusting you with. God Bless you, And If you want to keep in touch My e-mail is wrwoodall@yahoo.com If you have any questions feel free to contact me. My prayers and respect are with you. Signed, MGSGT WOODALL (USMC) (RETIRED) OOH RAH!!! SEMPER FI.

Congratulations Kid you got balls and I am proud of you!
remember
Pay attention to detail!
What does not kill you makes you stronger
Never Quit
Pay attention to detail!
Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut
Stand straight and tall, look forward and suck in your gut
Stay Spit shined and always carry a field manual or book
If you cant keep up with the run, walk fast
If you cant keep up with the walk Crawl
If your seargeant tells you to quit look him in the eye and shout "You first Seargeant" NEVER QUIT.
Excuses are like A**holes everybody got one and they all stink.
Pay attention to detail
When speaking to anyone look them in the eye, speak loudly, clearly and directly to the point
Shake hands firmly salute crisply
If you screw up admit it and keep pushing
If someone else is faltering offer assistance, There is no Army of One you are a team.
when assigned a duty you do not like don't join in on the grumbling suck it up do it well and move on.
Pay attention to detail!
And most importantly of all Look, walk, talk and be Proud!
Did I mention, Pay attention to detail!!
If you are ever able drop me a Hooaahh after Boot, if not God Bless

Don't ever lose your moral compass. See it as a learning period and a chance to meet different people. Hope everything goes well for you now and in the future. You deserve the best.

keep your mouth closed, your ears opened, and stay motivated. Don't let the lame recruits that show up there get you down. Not everyone there belongs and you'll just have to put up with them and the crap they bring on the group for their stupidity.
