I asked this question to a group of people once and was amazed that people were fighting with me to not have a public holiday on Election Day in November. They came up with all sorts of reasons to go to work. Are you completely out of your mind? I am suggesting a DAY OFF, a freakin' HOLIDAY every 2 years for elections and you would argue and stress that you would rather be at work than anywhere else? How brainwashed is the American public. I don't see too many people fighting to go to work on Sundays.

What are your thoughts?

Should there be a day off for us to go and vote, like many other countries, or should we just take the chance and get to the polling station after work?

abso-freaking-lutely it should be a holiday!

i go to work because i need the money, not for any joy of working... in this country you are entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. when did it become, life, indentured servitude and the pursuit of crappy stuff made in china?

maybe if we celebrated voting, more people would still believe this is a democracy.

You mean you want a Holiday for something that takes you like what 30 minutes at the most to do? How hard is it to go after work to vote....the polls are open usually way after most people get done working.

If we truly valued democracy and believed in America, yes.

We have presidents day, how bout moving it to Nov 2nd so everyone can vote instead.

Most people just like the excuse of "having to work" to avoid their civic responsibility of voting. If they had election day off, they might feel guilty having a BBQ instead of voting.

OH wait, they have BBQ's and watch football on veterans and memorial day instead of honoring the soldiers who fought and died for their right to vote, so why would election day be any different.

What is so holidayish about it? It is a day to perform your civic DUTY, not an excuse to party. Polls are open 7-7, so there are plenty of opportunities for those who are serious to go and vote.

If more people had the day off work, less would bother going out to vote.

It would not matter most of us do not get holidays (except Thanksgiving and Christmas) off anymore. If they did do it I would want it mandatory ALL BUSINESSES CLOSED THAT DAY! That would mean no McDonald's, no BK, no Walmart, no convenience stores or gas stations. Also make it mandatory that it be PAID! Just my 2 cents.
