At the root of lying is fear, particularly the fear of man. Specifically, at least on an unconscious level, fear of being killed by your fellow man. Eliminate the fear of man, and your desire to fabricate (or make things up) will follow.
That is an easy thing to say, but how do you become truly unafraid? For me, it was becoming a Christian. I just didn't worry about dying anymore, and that is really the worst thing that can happen to you at the hands of your fellow man.
These days, I just tell the truth, painful as it might be, and go on with my life. I may not win a lot of popularity contests, but people consistently seek me out when they want to hear the truth.
Would you consider letting Jesus become your Lord and trading in your fear of man in exchange for the love of God?
Thank you for your courage to ask this very tough question. I hope you find the answer you are looking for. God bless you!

You will only continue to make matters worse and worse, always having to cover one lie with another, forgetting which story you told who? Honesty is a much more peaceful place to come from. But you already know this. Learn to respect yourself and those who love you or learn to live a life of loneliness and misery. You know what to do. If not, talk to someone you trust and be absolutely truthful about this.

There are plenty of ways to stop lying !
I'm going to a friends to do Homework ! We all know what you do ! (Play video games or get drunk with your buddies)
Honestly there are plenty of lies like the one I mentioned ! I think to stop the habit is easy if you are honest to yourself and to others ! By the way are you serious that it is making you unhappy !!!!!!!

It might be a self-esteem problem. I used to be a compulsive liar and my therapist helped me raise my self-esteem. People lie about themselves to make it seem like they lead more interesting lives.
