Oh yes there is a way. Walk him. Yes, that's right. The reason your dog is chewing the couch is he is bored. How you ask? Dogs are made up of energy. When they ran wild in packs of dogs, they were always walking/running, always on the move looking for water or food. This is a part of what they are made of, you cannot take this out of a dog. You must get him outside for 30 minutes a day and walk him. Also, walk him too before feeding time. When you do this, you are letting him work for his food, as dogs did in the wild. Another thing you can do is cup your hand like a claw bending fingers at the first knuckles. Now, when your dog looks like he's going to chew something he shouldn't (you have to do this at the right time), in a bit of a striking motion not hard, tap at the side of his throat while making a "tsk" sound, or some sort of sound, (Do Not say the word "no"). When you do this, the "tsk" sound breaks his attention away from the chewing act, and the striking to the throat part of this acts as the pack leader correcting him for doing something he shouldn't be doing. However, if you are going to do this, you must be calm/assertive at the time; he will feel your energy and you must be calm. Also, you must let him know you are the pack leader, you are boss of him, and you tell him no, he cannot chew that thing or this thing. After awhile, he'll get the idea. But everyone reading this, please get your dogs out for a 30 minute walk everyday no matter how big or small they are. You got these dogs because you love them. They will love you even more if you do this for them. This is a part of taking care of them. Thank you.

Try Bitter Apple Spray, which is available at almost all pet stores. It works by making the couch taste awful which will make your dog stop his chewing and off finding something that taste better. Good Luck!

Sounds like he's teething. Try some hard chew bones the raw hide and when you see him at the couch have a soft ball in hand throw it at him and say "NO". The reason for using something soft is so you don't hurt him.

Spray water bottle. Non toxic, not harmful - and they don't like it. Works with cats too.

1. Warn - Stop it! or No!
2. Squirt
3. Off to the bad-dog-box (in my case it's the balcony) for a time-out.

:) I now have a brand new leather couch without a scratch on it :)

They catch on fast...

constant reminders and get him something to chew on. chewing relieves stress for dogs. my pit used to chew as a pup, i made sure she always has a rope to chew on and she has never chewed anything that wasn't hers again.

to lpkm yelling is not the answer. positive reinforcement is always the way to go. yelling creates fear and more stress. scolding is ok but never yell. giving your animal something else to chew and praising them when they do works alot better. i worked in a kennel for 5 years and participated in dog training courses, as well as worked with a movie animal trainer. consistency and positive reinforcement!!!

They have this spray that deters dogs from chewing on furniture (go to the petstore). Everytime you see him attempt to chew on inappropriate items -- take them away or give him a bone or greenie to chew on. Tell him "good bite" when he starts chewing on the bone.

im not gonna answer cuz the people before said everything...the time out in thing is good, but dont listen to the people who favor physical or aggresive punishment. it may or may not work on the surface but it can cuase other eally unpleasant problems (random urination and crap like that) aside from the fact that you should love your dog enough not to want to do tha!
