The God who throws people in fire for ever and ever certainly acts like a lot more like some people I know - rather than the real God. Is it possible that the people who describe God as being so cruel are just revealing their secret wish to be cruel themself? Isn't it a coincidence that the people who concentrate the most on the faults of others are the quickest to believe the monster God theory?

This is an interesting observation which I've been pondering for quite some time myself. It is remarkable though that it seems to be only Christianity which spells out that much doom for non-conformists; all other religions are a bit less condemning - at least they don't spell it out in such detail. So, if you approach it scientifically, and consider that "God" is a phenomenon for which all religions on earth have their own interpretations, and then look at the overall picture they draw, you'll find that that God isn't really that grim at all by worldwide comparison. Going by the Christian view alone is not an option for you, in my opinion, for one because you seem to have an inquisitive and open mind, and also because "God" is a phenomenon which supercedes religion (if religions are telescopes, then God is the planet they all watch).

What are you talking about God Is Awesome. Are you still stuck in the Old Testament? There is another book of the bible called the New Testament where God sends down His son Jesus who died so our sins will be forgiven. You should read it some times it is very interesting.

The last book of the Bible warns that only those with wisdom should read. I think the whole Bible should be treated the same, except for the red words, but you know, even they need wisdom to understand. I just think a lot of people distrust love and prefer to take a dim view of reality, don't yourself follow suit, love till you die.

you must be a jehovah witness.
So tell me,if we are made in the image of God, then why dont we kill everyone that is bad? Why punish them and put them in prison? Do we resemble God in that?
And if someone goes to the electric chair, is it idea to release him from suffering? Or to punish him? Take him out of society to protect others?
So where is your idea that God will not punish based on?
Not on intuition or on bibical grounds

Coincidence? No. The deeply religious find more fault with their fellow humans than the deeply agnostic or the deeply atheistic.

Oh, man, that is a good question! Give yourself 10 points, you answered it best yourself! That is pretty much what I told my pastor when I left my parents' church. I told him that if that was really their god, then I was more moral than God, and if he had the power to send me to Hell, then I would go to Hell with dignity.

Well, I'm not Christian but I don't believe that he throws 'em down there forever.

It was something like they're sent to hell to be purified of their sins in waitting for his second coming or something?

or I could be totally off.
