I recently dog-sat for the weekend and have been congested ever since. I don't think I am allergic per se, but i think I am sensitive to the amount of hair that was in the air, on the bed/couch, etc.
What can I do to make it easier next time? I am scheduled to dog sit for a week in August too...

you dont have hair in your lungs..if you did you'd be battling an infection by now...it sounds like you maybe be allergic to the dog.....best thing to do is limit physical contact with it, vacuum carpets etc and wash your hands and face well after touching the dog...or it maybe a coincidence that you may just be starting a cold the same time you were with dog....if it happens the next time you sit it then more than likely you've developed an allergy towards dogs...

You probably are allergic dogs. People can develop allergies to anything at anytime. You could explain to the owners what happened and ask them to vacuum the house before you dog sit again. Also you could ask your pharmacist to recommend a non-drowsy antihistamine for you.

There is a product called Allerpet-D that is like you brush through their hair. It reduces the hair and dander allergens and works great for most dog allergies. Vacuum alot with a hepa vac. A regular vac will just blow all the allergens around.

About the only thing you can do is vacuum. My sister had cat hair in her lungs. You can have your chest X-rayed, you will be told what your problem is. Yet it could be the dogs shampoo. I am highly alergic to many things just since my early 50's.

You're allergic to dog dander, that's the flaking skin under their coats. If you must dog sit I suggest sitting only dogs that don't shed because shedding dogs shed their dander as well as fur. Or have the doctor prescribe allergy meds.

Shave it. I hear that the Dr. Evil's pet look is switching from cats to dogs.
