Who was this guy?

In a secondhand store, I found an old paperback book entitled, "The Uncrowned Champion is Joey Giambra". It has a copyright date of 1979 and, in ink on the first page, an inscription which goes as follows: TO HAROLD & DIANNA YOUR PAL JOEY GIAMBRA 7 / 25 / 99. This message is neatly inscribed in longhand. Does anybody know who this man was? From the pictures inside the book and from the story line, I have to assume that he may have been a boxer. Anyhow, I would appreciate any light anyone could shed for me upon this mysterious book. Thanks.
