I earlier went to a question from a guy who had a link to a rather hateful website regarding my own religion. I just don't get it. Wouldn't it be time better spent to try to convince people that his religion is right, rather than that someone else's is wrong? I don't really care if someone says they're in the one true religion, and everyone else is wrong, but what's the point of hatefully singling one out one to bash?

Fear is an amazing motivator (and it comes from a really stupid place- ignorance)- it can motovate people to do some increadible things. Maybe they're afraid of something about your religion. Maybe they've heard rumors and fear that the rumor, ugly as it may be, is true.

I'm a variety of Christian and try to live by the Golden Rule, so I try to avoid bashing. I don't like how it makes me feel- angry and hateful inside. I know that's not going to make me a better person, it's highly unlikely that my anger will change their mind, and it's a huge waste of time and energy.

I know how you feel. My religion is bashed all the time too.. maybe it's your religion too??

I think that people do that out of fear or not wanting to learn the truth about someone elses religion. If there are truths in others religions, then does that make mine false? It's either that or sheer stupidity.

You and I are the same religion, and I guess we just need to ignore people who spread hate. They like to lie about our religion and try turning others against us. Since we are one of the fastest growing church in the world I guess we know it's not working.

Their own insecurities. If they do not bash your religion, how will they know that they have made the right choice in their religion? Yes, it is flawed logic, but most religions are based on flawed logic anyway.

Religion is the perfect con. It is government protected, tax free, and the product they sell never has to be delivered until you reach a place that doesn't exist. Little wonder so many con-men (and women) jump on that manured money wagon.

The motivation for bashing other people's religions are other people's religions.

well if you were taught one way is correct for your entire life and then someone else tells you that your way is wrong....I'm guessing there would be many reasons. They could feel threatened, they could feel fear that they are wrong. So mostly it's to make themselves feel better. Make them feel right in their ways of thinking. Just ignore them.

Referring to the details...

... you're absolutely right. We should bash all religions equally.

How silly of us all.

I don't know; why don't you email that person and ask them directly, or email the website (there is usually a link at the bottom of the webpage).

They are just trying to get a rise out of you. If you ignore them they will eventually get tired and go away.
