Every woman is differant from the time I was a small child untill now Ive heard horrifiying stories about pain and how scary having a baby is. But when I had my daughter I didnt feel contractions. I had an epidural so I didnt feel her come out. and I didnt rip or anything so the next day I was walking around the hospital I didnt hurt at all. some women have a high tolerance of pain and some women dont it just depend and the delivery and the woman.

Well, the contractions feel like someone crushing your sides and back and they are about every 2 minutes apart and 45 seconds long each once you are in the hospital. (They start out slower). Then while having the baby, you usually rip your perineum although I ripped up almost to my clitoris. Then after you have the baby, they sew you up and then you have to pee for 4-6 weeks while squirting cold water on the rip. The urine burns REALLY BAD on the rip. I nearly passed out once. But, before you give birth, you can get an epidural. This is a shot they put directly into the spinal cord. They numb you first with a local or Novacain or something similar so you don't feel it. Then their is an electrical shock feeling in your back then after about a minute, no pain or feeling at all. You will have no control of your bladder or bowels, so they put a catheter in the bladder and I just pooped myself there on the bed while pushing my son out. Its really not as bad as it sounds. You are rewarded with a beautiful child for all the pain. Good Luck!

Its scary yes, in the reguard that you have no idea if its your first time what is going to happen...Its painful yes, Its more painful than anything I have ever come to face in my life...and I've had natural child birth and child birth with the epudural...and I recomend the natural...I got over the pain by concentrating on that each contraction would bring me one step closer to having my baby...
It hurt, so much....I didnt think I could make it...but I did, and I was fine and so was the baby, and so are billions upon billions of others who have had children...but yes, if your afraid of the pain have them give you something local in a shot form, something that will dull your sense of the pain instead of block it compleatly...

First of all, don't listen to all the horror stories. Everyone has a different level for pain that they can take. or are comfortable taking. Sure, it's going to hurt. But it's not what you may imagine either. It's kind of hard to describe. The best way is to imagine being punched in the stomach by a little 3yr old kid for about 5 minutes, then a 4 yr old kid comes along and punches you for about 4 minutes every 5 minutes apart, then a 5 year old comes by and punches you for 3 minutes at about 4 minutes apart... and so on until the kid is about 17 and is punching you in the stomach for about 30 seconds at 30 seconds apart.

Of course it is scary. It's something that you have never experienced before and there can be complications (even though the risk is low). Different people have different pain levels. Some cannot tolerate any pain and need to have an epidural. Some can have moderate pain and get demerol. While a few can have no pain medication at all. I think it really has to do with the state of mind.

According to my wife, if you do some reading and get good support, it's not scary. Yes, it hurts, but that's okay. Pain isn't necessarily a bad thing, and taking drugs to relieve the pain can affect your child.

By the way, my wife bore our first child at home with a midwife and no drugs. It was a short, intense birth, but she'd do it again. Best of luck!

As long as you excercise and don't just lay around, it's not too bad. Everyone's different with labor and giving birth. If there is pain (and yes, there will be some, lol) you won't remember it, once you hold that priceless lil miracle in your arms. Just listen to what the doc says.

Its only scary because you don't know what to expect.
It is just a whole lot of work and anything that is alot of work physically, does hurt.
The pay off of the baby though is so worth it that the pain you went through seems like nothing.

Yes it's very painful but you will never experience that feeling of giving life to another human being after maybe a day or so you will be willing to do it all over again
