Dressing up like a police officer is not illegal. It only becomes illegal if you impersonate one...make or attempt to make other people believe that you are a real police officer.

I once heard that it is considered to be impersonating an officer, especially if it is a real one that belonged to a former cop. Best to call your friendly local police station and ask, you may need to remove all the official patches on the uniform.

For the halloween party it is ok, but once you step out of the party place, you have to change it to ordinary civil clothes, otherwise, if apprehended, police authorities will presume that you are doing somethin else against the law. Get your self out of possible trouble.

Probably. It's illegal to impersonate a police officer. I don't know if a bad costume is impersonation, but yours is real so I wouldn't take a chance with it.

Security guards dress like cops, and they don't get in trouble.

Just avoid genuine guns, ammo...... and badges and uniforms issued by local authorities.
